Minutes.
Attendance: Sam is growing more and more like Nooka every week. This week Sam declared in his attendance report that he was ‘buggered if I know?’ and that ‘I don’t know how Nooka does it?’ Sam then reported 17 members and one guest present. The club secretary and yours truly counted 24 members present. I think Sam knows exactly how Nooka does it. Our guest was Jamie Miller from Loved and Shared.
Meal: The traditional Indian beef curry with rice and a poppadum. Holly cow it was a good meal.
Sgt Bob introduced our president, James ‘The Fuzman’ Mepham, and we were underway. In reports;
· James reminded members that we are still looking for a Community Service Director and a President Elect for next year.
· James thanked Malcolm for organising the recent Francis Foundation working bee and thanked those members who took part.
· Malcolm advised that we still had some work to do at the Francis Foundation and a second working bee will be required.
· Bob noted that the final figure from the Hospital Auxiliary fundraiser was $9800. He read out a wonderful card of thanks received from the Hospital Auxiliary.
· Bob reminded members that the Golden Community Raffle tickets are due back soon.
· Bob also reminded us that the Myeloma Australia walk will be held on the 5th of March at 10.00am. Please see the text from Bob for details.
· Hayesey is going to the Neil Porter Legacy careers in farming open day to check it out.
Jamie Miller spoke about Loved and Shared. The charity has been set up to receive and re-home high quality goods for children. The aim it to ensure all children have access to these items and to reduce landfill. There are 4500 children living in poverty in our region and 25 tonnes of high quality items for children going to landfill each year.
The charity has one full time employee; Jamie, but is otherwise run by 21 volunteers. They receive donated children’s clothing, toys, books, and equipment like prams, cots and car seats. These donations are sorted, quality checked, cleaned and repaired if required, categorised and packed. Effort is made to pack the items nicely to maintain the dignity of the recipients. These items are then distributed by other agencies.
Loved and shared are looking for more volunteers and donations of both goods and money.
Jamie very kindly thanked our Rotary club for its work in lining the walls of its facility. We thank Jamie for taking the time to come and talk to us.
