Not Meeting at the Timor Street Bowls Club this week.

With regret we have cancelled out meeting at the Bowls club tomorrow.  We plan to return to weekly meetings as soon as possible.

Q. What's the difference between the Pommies and a funeral director?

A. A funeral director isn't going to lose the ashes.

Tony’s tribulations.

We continue to ride the rollercoaster of the pandemic.  With several members testing positive and Omicron on the march we decided to cancel our meeting this Wednesday.  This is regrettable and we are keen to return to face-to-face meetings as soon as possible.  This should be soon given the projected trajectory of the Omicron variant.  We will monitor our members, the general situation in the community, and the position of our venue and return to meet as soon as we can.

We continue to check on the health and well being of our members who have tested positive.  If there is some way that we can help a club member over the next few weeks, please let us know.

Unfortunately, we have also had to cancel the Bool Music and Wine Festival.  Garry and his committee of Glenn Scott, Peter Headon, Rob Coffey, James Mepham, Malcolm MacPherson and Lew Officer have done a mountain of work.  This work has not gone to waste and our plan is to run the festival next year, with much of the hard work already done by the committee.  Part of their excellent planning was allowing for the possibility of this type of cancellation.  They have worked hard to minimise the costs to the club from this outcome.

I hope you will join me in thanking Garry and his committee for their work when you see them next.

The board met last night via Zoom and we continue to progress projects that we can roll out as we come out the other side of this latest speed hump.

I don't have many wise words of advice to help you through this current Covid situation, other than to pass on to you the wise words of Pip Ritchie, who observed that if you want to get a rapid test result, play England.

Kind regards

Tony

Q What do you get if you cross the English cricket team with an OXO cube?

A. A laughing stock.

Q What is the height of optimism?

A: English batsman putting on sunscreen.

English part 2.

No long ago your correspondent noted to Lew that we were ‘going backwards in the other direction’.  Lew observed that there was really no other way to go backwards.  Recently The  Standard were concerned that the spread was growing.  Is something still spreading if it isn’t growing?  Lew then reflected that ‘If compound interest doesn’t increase, it is still compounding, and the number is still getting bigger……’.  Some people think we have too much time on our hands.  Does time ever reside on our hands?  If it does sometimes, where else can time be located?  Here at the Central Spoke we are committed tackling the big issues.

Q. What is the difference between an English batsman and a Formula 1 car?

A. Nothing! If you blink you will miss them both.

Ten Years Ago.

Ten years ago, Maxi showed a certain European flair for sailing when she went out with Rowan and Boré on the ‘Costa Bandictootia’.  I believe Rowan and Boré did run aground on a submerged reef, Costa Concordia style, in the Bandicoot at one stage.

Pip Ritchie writes;

Q. What do English batsmen and drug addicts have in common?

A. Both spend most of their time wondering where their next score will come from.
