MEETING 10 JULY
A great lunch with a weirdly succinct Nooka announcing 22,..no guests,..18 eating. He whipped through the Footy Tipping advising Verto and Rotten leading with 101, Matt NE 96,Nooka modestly poised for his regulation late charge 95, O’Reilly 94, Hayesy & Hutto 93,…Nooka will be at this week’s meeting, but then away for 6 weeks, so in a novel twist he’s asking everyone to tip all of the next 6 weeks in one hit. No exceptions. We all have to comply. His only blemish was that his nicknames have become so obscure he had to seek members’ assistance in working out who the hell he was talking about.
He did however set the scene for a very polished meeting. Pity we didn’t have a DG or two in attendance. They’d have learned a thing or two. Sgt Jon V and I were in charge given the lack of a Compass. One could tell we were in charge, being the only two in jackets until Jellie arrived.
Initially lacking the mandated “joke or interesting fact” The Voice gave it some thought and asked what is it that are white, although there are 3 black ones in the world, and one of those is in Victoria?....McPhail nailed it immediately…Lighthouses!...and our black one is at Queenscliff. The other 2 are in Texas and Ireland. A looming audition for HardQuiz Surf?
We acknowledged the sad and unexpected passing of Bomber Raymond, a friend to so many of us. Terrible. We’ll place a tribute in The Standard, and note the celebration of his life is to take place at the Matilda Room, Warrnambool Racecourse 2.30pm Monday 15 July. Not everyone in the club today would know Bomber, and Gracey gave a heartfelt sketch of Eddie at the conclusion of the meeting.

It proved handy not having a guest speaker, as it gave time for Bill Quinlan to report on the Rotary House Committee meeting which he and Lindsay Bullivant (treasurer of the Committee) attended. They failed to get a quorum, but the majority of those attending were all against Bill’s suggestion (supported by LB) to wind up the show and do something with the residual $240k (sic). In order for the club to firm up our position and/or consider other options it was agreed we should obtain a copy of the Constitution and MOU. That request has now been made, and once reviewed by the Board we’ll discuss it at a meeting again very soon.
See you all on Wednesday when The Pres returns.
Remember, think of potential guest speakers and new members, and don’t be shy about sending Tony Davies any contributions at all for inclusion the The Central Spoke.
Robbo.
