President's Report.

We are coming g to the end of our time in NZ. As i write this i am in the Christchurch airport waiting for my flight that is delayed 2.5hr so far due to the cyclone hitting the north island.  We have had a great time but will be happy to get back to the bool.

I have nothing on the Rotary front except to remind people to fill in your availability for the May Races can collection. Also remember the annual dinner is coming up. Pres elect would have advised you on that I'm sure.

I hopefully will fly in on Wednesday and return back to the bool on Thursday train service permitting!!

Attached are a few pics of a mail run boat trip we did yesterday and some pics of the trip from Blenheim to Christchurch today Sunday.

End Trachoma Update.

Trachoma is a bacterial infection that is the leading infectious cause of preventable blindness in the world.  It is linked to poor living conditions and poor access to clean water and toilets.  It has been a long term problem in Australia, particularly in remote indigenous communities.  End Trachoma is a Rotary Australia project to eliminate trachoma in Australia.  They bring us this update.
Minutes.

With a big bowls tournament on at the Bowlo, we convened at the RSL for a casual lunch this week.  Very little to report other than it was an excellent meal with friends.

Table 1.

Table 2.

Sorry Robbo, that was unkind.  By way of an apology, allow me to relabel these photos.

The number of wins Melbourne has had since May last year.

The number or wins Essendon has had since May last year.
Everybody climbs aboard the Essendon bandwagon.

Essendon are one of the form teams of the competition right now.  After finding no luck in their previous seventeen starts, the mighty Bombers were cherry ripe going into their clash against the barnstorming but unreliable Dees.

The big question is, did anyone tip the mighty Bombers?  Obviously Essendon tragics like yours truly tip the Bombers every week, and several times a year this choice is vindicated by subsequent events.  But, did anyone else tip the Bombers?

Robbo has a long history of winning our footy tipping contest and did predict last week that the Dees might be in trouble against the Dons.  Well done Robbo!  Well done also to the sixteen expert tipsters in The Age, who apparently all tipped the Bombers.

Did anyone not tip the Dons to end their run of outs against Melbourne this week?  No doubt we will have a chance explore this question further in the fines session this week.
Farmer Aid Update.

This week Lew brought to our attention another story in the news about how Lego is being used by organsied crime syndicates to launder money.  Lew also mentioned Bono's recent efforts to help distribute Lego sets to local farmers who have been doing it tough.  Members will be pleased to know those local farmers and their families will now be able to purchase what ever they desire on the black market from organised crime gangs.  Seems like a win-win.

Traffic Update.

Lew writes.
Ten Years Ago.

Ten years ago, we discussed the potential value appreciation of Lego sets that are out of production, and the use of Lego by organised crime to launder and store their money.  Ten years ago we also mentioned a Lego Portaloo set that was on sale at the time for $25.  No doubt members bought dozens of the sets and tucked them away in their garages.  The price of the set today, new and still in a sealed box?  The cheapest one available on Amazon is $154.
