President's Report.
Well, here it is, my last bulletin report for 2023/2024.

Well, it will probably be my last bulletin report ever unless I live to be over 100 years old!

It has been a pleasure leading the club for the last 12 months and I thank you all for the opportunity.

We certainly are a unique club that sometimes (actually probably a lot of the time) doesn’t stand on conventional Rotary practices, particularly at the District level, but we really are a powerhouse locally and can proudly hold our heads up high in the Warrnambool community.

We spoke at he last meeting about the potential to host an inbound Exchange Student and I was to follow up with Scotney Hayer, the District Placement Officer but so far, I have heard nothing despite leaving messages for him to contact me.

I will still send an email to all members, but details are somewhat sketchy, however you can still express a possible interest and we can go from there.

That’s all from me, see you on Wednesday and hopefully all of you next Friday for the changeover of Presidency to Matt.

Rob

Minutes

Attendance: Nooka counted 20 members in attendance.  Sam counted 21.  It does raise the question as to whether Nooka includes himself.  Lynchie got a meal he didn’t order and tried to hand it off to someone without a meal only to find that everyone else had their meal already.  Nooka observed that it was ‘working like clockwork.’  We had no guests and no visiting Rotarians.

Meal: Fish and chips.

Robbo kicked off the meeting right on cue with a proctology/snooker joke before introducing our President Rob.  Rob asked members is we want to host an inbound exchange student before inviting reports;

·       Tim reminded members that Mary from Switzerland will be here as our guest in two weeks.

·       Gerald advised that we have once confirmed candidate for Defy the Drift with more possibilities in the works.

·       Matt asked for reports from directors for the Annual Report before organising numbers for the change-over.

·       Nooka has The Voice in the lead in the footy tipping on 87.  Gracey picked five but was given three because Nooka ‘doesn’t like him.’

·       Tony D reported that we are half way through the push up challenge and Nooka, James M. and Tony D. are all above 1500 so far and going strong towards the 3249 target.

Trevor then gave us an impromptu report on Rochester and its recovery from recent floods as well as the loss of its milk processing plant.  Trev. noted that even though the houses look okay on the outside, there are caravans out the front of them and they are not repaired on the inside.  The town is clearly doing it tough.  The board might reach out to the Rotary Club of Rochester and see if there is any way we might help.

Lynchie conducted an excellent session based on Fairy Street back in the day.

Pip Ritchie, of the Ritchie-Benaud clan, seen here looking resplendent in ‘the cream, the bone, the white, the off-white, the ivory, or the beige’ shirt.

Club members took time out from the meeting to celebrate the sartorial elegance of the House of Ritchie chemise haute couture.

Push-up Challenge update.

With only one week to go, Nooka, James M. and your correspondent are making good progress.  We have more than 2,000 under our belts and only about 1,000 left to go.  The generous donation by the club of $1,000 to Lifeline Warrnambool is greatly appreciated.

Nooka doesn't let fishing get in the way of the Push-up Challenge, or vice versa.

Your correspondent's cavoodle is keeping tabs on my sit-ups.

Boré’s View #1: what Gracey isn’t doing.

Nooka, James M, and your correspondent were persuaded by Gracey to take part in the Push-up Challenge.  With more than 2,000 push-ups each under our belt, the three of us are starting to feel the strain.  Not Gracey though, he is cruising.  He has organised for the club to donate $1,000 to Lifeline Warrnambool and is not disclosing how many push-ups he had done himself.  If may well be a number that closely approximates zero.  Men's health advocate Boré was on hand to document Gracey’s progress in the Push-up Challenge.

We thank Boré for another excellent cartoon.

What Gracey is doing.

Clearly Gracey is not spending his time doing push-ups.  How is he spending his time then?  Nooka reports that, now that Gracey is retired, he is finding new ways to keep the wolf from the door.

Boré’s view #2.

The great thing about the Push-up Challenge is that you don’t have to do 3249 push-ups if you don’t want to.  You can do sit ups or squats.  You can do push-ups on your knees.  You can do half the challenge if you want to; 1625 repetitions instead of 3249.  Most people should be able to tailor the challenge to suit them.  However, the organisers may draw the line at Rotten’s strategy.  Boré reports.

We thank Boré for two cartoons this week!

Ten Years Ago.

Ten years ago, Pip donned the beige shirt, went out into the shed, searched around for some scrap metal, and fired up the welder.  The result was the excellent and legendary Rotary Wheel of Fairness.  The wheel appeared for one night, our changeover dinner, and was never seen again.  Rumours persist that a farmer in Kazakhstan is still using it to plow his field.
