Members enjoyed another relaxed 30th Birthday celebration again this year. It was great to see Ashley King and Ron McLeod (for the second week in a row). At this rate we are going to have to give Ron a Paul Harris. Hopefully members and guests enjoyed the day. A big thank you to Bob and Robbo for helping to organise the event. Robbo joins an illustrious club of members who have recently helped organise an event that they themselves have not attended.
Ten Years Ago.
Ten years ago this week our Charter President continued his report on his recent trip to Europe;
Bruce travelled extensively through Italy. He noted Pompeii was very impressively laid out (although, with the benefit of hind sight Bruce, there may have been one small flaw in the Pompeii planning scheme). Bruce was particularly impressed with the Bordello, which he noted was very similar to a modern Brothel (errr...., so we have heard). Bruce described Italy as full of ‘lots of architectural situations’ and the leaning tower of Pisa as ‘an interesting outfit’. Bruce was able to visit the holy grail of real estate, Milan, which has what Bruce breathlessly described as ‘the most expensive real estate in the world’.
Although Bruce’s ancestors have travelled extensively in Europe, he is the first member of his family to get to Switzerland. Bruce finished his tour in Paris at the Moulin Rouge, which he reported was ‘a very good show, lots of bosoms’. History buff Bruce also reported that ‘‘The palace of Versailles was built by Louis the 13th or 14th, whose wife, Josephine, was executed during the French revolution’
