We are not meeting this week at the Timor Street Bowls Club. Rather we are meeting on Thursday at the Warrnambool Football Club at 6.00pm with the other three clubs.
We will be back at the Bowls Club next Wednesday 2nd March, 12.30 for 1.00pm as usual. Parking on the city side of the club off Timor Street. It is very important that you rsvp by texting Brendan before mid-day next Tuesday.

Greetings fellow Rotarians.
We have plenty going on.
No Wednesday meeting this week as we meet instead with the other three clubs on Thursday night. We thank the RC of Warrnambool East for organising this.
We have our important Myeloma walk on Sunday. There is still time to register if you would like to join us in supporting this cause that is close to us.
The District Conference is coming up. Pip has probably already booked a bus to take us to Port Fairy. Let me know if you are interested in joining us in Port Fairy for the conference.
The four clubs are proposing to have a movie night on the 24th of March to support End Polio. The movie is 'The Duke'. Hopefully we can support this event and the Polio eradication project.

Roster.
The great thing about The Roster is that it always works flawlessly and nothing ever goes wrong. We are bringing it back for next week. Please keep an eye out for your name in the weeks ahead. If you are not able to be at a meeting please organise someone else to stand in for you.
A most enjoyable meeting attended by 16 of us, although we had only some five replies by 12.30 on the day before, which is the cut-off time for Sergeant Brendan to give our numbers into the venue. Can everyone please make a real effort to reply to Brendan whether they are coming or not.
Our Guest Speaker was past member Ron McLeod, who regaled us with stories of his time in Rotary during seven years he spent at Penang in Malaysia. As part of his presentation Ron handed around photographs, including photographs of of many of our past and current members who had visited Ron and Bev at Penang, and attended his Rotary Club. This week we have no meeting on Wednesday and there is instead a joint meeting of the four clubs at the Warrnambool Football Club on Thursday night as detailed elsewhere in this bulletin.

Rotary Horse Racing Report.
Several years ago, twenty members and friends teamed up with our friends at Wilde Racing to purchase a share in a horse (Sirileo Miss). A year later ten hardy souls doubled down and took a share in another horse (Power of Song). Your correspondent decided that was enough and that there was to be no more horses. A year later Wilde Racing kindly donated a share in a horse to our auction and, due to popular demand, we purchased a share in the horse (which might yet be called Dirty Angel). That was it however. We are definitely not buying another horse. No more. That is it. We are not buying another horse under any circumstances.
Okay, we bought another horse. Wilde racing had clearly identified that Sirileo’s race winnings were burning a hole in her owners’ pockets. In response, they purchased Sirileo’s half-sister and offered her to the existing Sirileo owners. Smart gamblers in a casino walk out while they are in front rather than staying until they have lost the lot. So, naturally, we bought the horse.
Rest assured, we will keep you informed if and when any of our horses should happen to actually run in a race.

Ten Years Ago.
Ten years ago, Mitch Malady was our out-bound exchange student in France. It was a simple time when we were able to travel overseas and France was not upset with us over a cancelled submarine contract. Mitch attended a Rotary meeting and sent us this report.
‘First, we all sat in a conference room for half an hour for the formalities of the meeting, then we moved in to the restaurant for a delicious three course dinner consisting of gravlax salmon for entrée, pork filet mignon for main and millefeuille for dessert, with many bottles of wine being consumed between the Rotarians, this all being spread out over 2 and a half hours. Sorry gents, but I know which meeting I'd rather be at! Something which was a bit different for me is that there were more female members than male members in my club! But they still manage to have their own Bruce Ludeman*… ’
