Attendance: Glenn was once again a model of efficiency in reporting 27 members in attendance.  He thanked those members who used the Stack App to let the venue know they wanted a meal.

Meal: A senior’s-sized schnitzel with chips, a light sprinkling of salad, and an enormous vat of gravy.  Excellent.  That is what retired life is meant to be - mostly gravy.

Jon introduced President Matt, who discussed the sad passing of our Charter President, Bruce Ludeman.  His funeral will be held on Friday, 2.30pm at the Golf Club.  Matt reported that Bruce’s family were doing okay. 

 

In reports;

·       Greg returned from Italy.  Welcome back Greg.

·       Gerald reminded members of the Neil Porter Legacy’s maths and science forum in Terang.  Volunteers are needed so talk to Gerald if you can help.

·       Boré reported on his progress with the Rotating dinner.  He reflected ‘I wonder why I have volunteered to organise this?’.  He asked Lindsay if he had a mathematical formula to help organise a Rotating dinner.  Lindsay offered a ‘no’.  Boré’s final request to members was ‘Please pull out’.  In summary, it all seems to be going very well.

·       Lew noted that the Wordle solution the previous day had been ‘Feral’.  No doubt a mark of respect from the New York Times for Bruce.

·       Hutto reported that we have made another $155 from cans collected at the racecourse.  Thanks to all those who helped. 

·       Jon recommended Beau Miles Youtube video on can recycling.  Your correspondent has watched the video and it is excellent.  Arguably, as a charity in Victoria, we are the Kramer’s and Neuman’s and have cracked the can recycling racket as well as anyone so far. 

·       Bim advised that Peter Cosgrove will be at the Warrnambool RSL for Vietnam Veteran’s day.

·       Bill reported on the recent meeting of the Rotary House Committee.  The decision was made to keep it going despite our President making some ‘good points’.  Bill noted that the Treasurer, our own Lindsay Bullivant, was ‘the youngest person present (which The Compass took exception to).  Bill also thought the $242,000 in remaining funds were ‘pretty safe’ in Lindsay’s hands.

Members then shared memories and stories of our Charter President Bruce Ludeman.  So many great stories that we barely scratched the surface.  Bruce will be sorely missed.

 

Fifty years ago, a young man was enjoying life and largely ignoring crotchety old men who leant out of their Kingswoods and yelled ‘get a hair cut ya hippie’ at him.  Top work Lew.
