Tickler’s ramble.

Hi everyone.

Hi all the new restrictions introduced on the weekend (not on fishing thankfully)have thrown a spanner in the works.  Our get together at the RSL looks like its dead.  I will leave that one to Tony, but our changeover should still be on as planned.

Shane the copper asked our club for assistance in running an RUOK day barbecue out the front of the police station but that may now have to be reviewed. Will let you know more details as soon as they come to hand.

I guess all we can do is roll with the punches and soldier on hope to see you all as soon as we can   Take care, Tickler

Cheers

Tim Goodall
Not back up and running.

President Tim hit the nail on the head; in these times we just need to roll with the punches.

Our board members only changeover will still go ahead on the 1st of July.  Very sorry all members cannot attend.

Tim mentioned our RSL get together was dead.  I prefer to think of it as being in a coma.  Hopefully we can revive it at some future date.  We will let you know as soon as we have more information.

At this stage our plan to return to Wednesday lunches at the Central Court is also on ice.  The restrictions are due to be reviewed again in late July, I believe the 19th.  Again, we will provide details on our plans as we learn more.

In the mean time, Ann is very kindly going to organise a Zoom video conference for members for 1.00pm each Wednesday.  If you would like to take part then you need to download and join Zoom if you have not already.  Ann will be providing details in the near future.  July the 1st will be the first of these meetings.  Thanks to Ann for organising this.

Combined board meeting.

A combined board meeting (new and old board) will be held on Wednesday 1st July, 6.30pm, Central Court Motel.  Order from the menu, drinks at bar prices.  This meeting will serve as our change-over dinner.  It is regretted that this meeting will be limited to current and incoming board members due to the current restrictions.
RUOK.

Hi gents

Hope you are both well in these time.
I am an ambassador for RUOK
RUOK is held every year, this year Thursday, 10 September
I am proposing the following in the morning between 7.30am-9am:

That we do a BBQ breakfast (I suggest outside the front of the Police station)
Aim is promote mental health awareness to the community
Inclusive of all mental Health services available in Warrnambool
Rotary Warrnambool Central assist with the cooking and funding of the breakfast
I'm happy to do the majority of organising

By working together we would have greater exposure across community
Happy to take advice, suggestions and feedback
Can you let me know if you are keen for your respective organisations to be involved
Obviously this is subject to any COVID restrictions

Thanks Gents

Shane

Boré’s view.

This week we correct an omission from earlier in the year.

For a long time Rob and the board of WRAD have been trying to set up a residential facility to treat addiction in our community.  They have been fighting the vagaries of our planning system.  Rob must at times have felt like he was at sea in the proverbial barbed wire canoe, just struggling to stay afloat.  Still, Rob would be used to that from his days diving for abalone.

Last Australia Day Rob Coffey was awarded an Order of Australia gong.  This award was a wonderful recognition of all the great work Rob has done in our community, both with WRAD and in other fields.  These awards have undergone some changes over the years.  Without expressing an opinion on the merits of the various changes, we just observe that if Rob had received his award while Tony Abbott was still Prime Minister, he would now called be Sir Robert.

Congratulations Sir Rob.

We thank Boré for another fantastic cartoon.

If you are looking for a bite to eat...

Ten years ago this week.

Sadly, for a variety of reasons, our exchange program is in hiatus.  Ten years ago we were farewelling Thais and preparing to welcome Oscar Stig, aka 'The Stig'.  This was Thais' last report to the club ten years ago.

This week Thaïs said good bye to our club.  She gave us an excellent report on her home town La Cote Saint Andre.  She noted it was a wine region, and ‘you guys like wine’.  Well spotted Thaïs.  She also introduced us to her family.

Thaïs also gave an account of her recent Safari.  She visited Cooper Pedy, Uluru, ‘the other rocks’, Kings Canyon, Whitehaven beach and Sydney.  On the negative side the toilet on the bus was broken for the whole trip.  (A hint Thaïs – bus drivers always say that because they don’t like cleaning it.)  On the positive side the group only ended up spending one night in gaol during their whole trip.  She also reported the boys dressed up as girls and ‘they loved it’.  No doubt they blended right in while in Sydney.

Thaïs received the traditional hat and coat for her Birthday and as a going away present.  She noted the long coat would make her look like Ian Senior.  Thaïs was pleased to report she enjoyed her time in Australia and enjoyed ‘speaking your crazy language’.  My oath.

A special thanks to the Seniors, Keoghs, Penningtons and the Keeleys for all they have done as Thaïs’ host families.  We wish Thaïs all the best as she embarks on university next year.

Footy update.

Great news for Melbourne this week when they had their game against the undefeated Dons cancelled because Conor McKenna tested positive to Covid-19.  All those people circulating jokes about 'another Essendon player tests positive' can get stuffed.

Covid-19 is now the leading cause of death amongst infectious diseases.  Second on the list is malaria.  To be safe Essendon have asked Conor McKenna to avoid the club mascot, Skeeta Reynolds.
Thank you to all those who contributed this week.
