Your board, and in particular Tony (club services), have been working on the restart of our weekly meetings and a club get together as well as board meeting – changeover. We now have dates for these events that you can avail yourselves of in this very important edition of the Central Spoke.
It’s been a very interesting time and will continue to be as we slowly return to normal. We should have all learned a lot about ourselves during this time. It’s an ill wind that blows no good and I am looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Back up and running.
Club members will be pleased to know we will be meeting as a club again very soon. Our first meeting back will be at the RSL on the night of Wednesday July 8th. We will then return to having weekly lunch meetings at the Central Court. All the details are below. However, there will need to be some important changes to the way we attend meetings.
1. Please come to our meetings.
We want to catch up with everyone again. Every club member is invited and we hope to see you at the meeting.
2. Please let us know you are coming.
Venues are doing it tough at the moment. We want to support them in every way that we can. One way to support them is giving the venue exact numbers of people who are attending. Please come to our meetings, please rsvp before you come. If you don’t let us know you are coming, there will not be a chair for you at the table. To quote past member Frank McKenzie, if you turn up without an rsvp, your meeting will be ‘doing push-ups in the carpark’.
3. Consider paying electronically.
We hope to set up an option and have more information soon, but going forward we will be trying to minimise the handling of cash.

This will be a low-key social get together. Please join us.
A combined board meeting (new and old board) will be held on Wednesday 1st July, 6.30pm, Central Court Motel. Order from the menu, drinks at bar prices. This meeting will serve as our change-over dinner. It is regretted that this meeting will be limited to current and incoming board members due to the current restrictions.
Footy tipping.
Given the disjointed and shortened footy season we will have a disjointed and shortened tipping comp to match!
It will work like this:
Send in your tips to me each week to the email address below.
All you have to do is tip one team each week to win. The catch is you cannot pick the same team to win two weeks running nor can you pick the same team to lose two weeks running. The comp will continue until there is one tipster left who shall be declared the winner.
If the comp is won in 2 or 3 weeks which is more than likely, it will start again m. Same rules.
Entry fee will be $10 only. For each comp entered.
Get you tips to me by 6pm this Wednesday. For future weeks, by 6pm the day before the first match of the round.

Entry money will be collected when we resume meetings and prize money distributed at the end of the season.

Boré’s view.
For weeks now communities all over the world have been up in arms over abuses of police power and the treatment of people of colour. Your correspondent has no doubt there is a basis to these complaints both here and overseas. While we don’t condone abuses of power by the police, we also acknowledge that police work can be stressful, and police often have to deal with difficult people who are breaking the law.
A case in point recently was a fine young police officer who noticed a large physiotherapist on a push bike going through a red light in fragrant and wilful breach of the law. Our heroic police officer did his duty and approached the lawbreaker, only to receive some lip from the unrepentant cyclist. Fortunately, some stern words and a large fine from the officer was just enough to allow our suddenly repentant commuter to reflect on his actions and commit to mending his ways.

Very little can occur in public these days without it potentially being flimed and ending up on the internet. The recent public exposure of the shocking death of George Floyd demonstrated the benefit of this phenomenon. However, sometimes you wonder if there is now a generation of people who are more interested in photographing and filming life than living it. Pip Ritchie understands.
