Attendance: Nooka pencilled nineteen members and one ‘honoured guest’ in attendance.  Our guest was Brian Denton.  No doubt we had an honourable guest, it is a matter of debate as to how honoured he felt to be there. 

Meal: Crumbed fish with lemon, tartare sauce, chips and salad.  Excellent.

Jon kicked off proceedings with a few well received Carlton jokes.  Matt informed us that;

·       David Jellie’s mother passed away recently.  Our condolences to David.

·       Bob McMillan celebrated his birthday recently – happy birthday Bob.

·       Members should rsvp to the Bowling Night through the Stack App.

In other reports;

·       Tony D advised members the plan is to repeat our recent tree planting with the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority to become and annual project.  We will join the other three clubs for some tree planting and a barbecue about this time each year.

·       Tony D also advised that another batch of about 60,000 pharmaceutical blister packs will be packed into boxes for recycling on the 15^th of October.  Members are welcome to join us if they are interested in this project.

·       Gerald informed us that we will visit the farm at Cooramook before having lunch at the Woolsthorpe Pub on the 16^th of October.  Please rsvp though the Stack App.

·       Hutto informed us that the Winx film night has been moved to the 3^rd of October.  Tickets will be on sale next Wednesday for $20 each.  Contact Hutto if you would like tickets.  Hutto is also looking for raffle prizes for the night.

·       Hutto also announced that the VRC has chosen Myeloma Australia as the ‘pin’ charity this year. 

·       Nooka reminded members there will be a big footy tipping results announcement in Grand Final week.

Bono then presented part two of his accounts of his European adventure.  His diverse interests include historical battlefield sites, rude statues, the blood of Christ, fruitless tomato plants, dairy farms, and European fire hydrants.  We thank Brendan for another excellent presentation.

The barrel was drawn and Rowan took home the free meal voucher.

We wish Matt well for his upcoming procedure and hope to see him back and feeling well soon.

Rotary Horse Racing Report.

Last Thursday we had two horses running locally here in Warrnambool; Chipilly in the third and Overflow Miss in the sixth.  Our past record in here Warrnambool has been terrible, much like Essendon in a final, with every horse we have ever run here putting in an embarrassing performance in front of a home crowd.  Surely we were due for a change of luck.

Chipilly started her race as the second priced favourite and ran a fairly poor race before coming home very late to grab third, miles behind the eventual winner.  Overflow Miss was not as fancied in her race, also ran a fairly poor race before coming home very late to pick up a respectable fifth place. 

What should we make of the day?  Both horses finishes in acceptable positions without being great.  Mediocre but not terrible, which is an improvement for us at the local track.  However, both horses did all their best work after the race had already been lost, and both lost to the winner by a large margin.  In other words, much like Carlton in a final.  Hopefully we made more from money collecting cans than we did from running horses.

Every year in Rotary we have a theme.  This year the theme is 'The Magic of Rotary'.  Ten years ago, the theme was 'Light Up Rotary'.  It turned out to be one of the most popular themes we have ever had.
