Tony’s tribulations.
Greetings fellow Rotarians.
Rotary is run by dedicated volunteers who do a great job. This includes those Rotarians who serve at District level and above. Despite this, some of Rotary’s procedures seem inefficient and a bit pointless. Some of the things that District ask club office bearers to do are helpful and important. Some seem to be unnecessarily time consuming or of questionable value to the work of Rotary. There is probably an element of doing things because ‘that is the way we have always done it’. This matters, because clubs report finding it increasingly difficult to find people willing to put their hand up to be office bearers.
There are also other opportunities for improvement. Everyone thinks 'Rotary Australia' it exists but actually in law there is no such thing. Who represents Rotary in Victoria or Rotary in Australia? If we want to coordinate a national Rotary response to a natural disaster who does that?
R.I. has selected Zone 8 (us) as one of two Rotary zones to participate in a pilot program to trial a proposed restructure of Rotary. This new structure has been proposed to assist ‘reducing club admin time, simplify club and district structure, reduce duplications in many layers from Districts down to Clubs in each zone and costs’ as well as giving geographic areas like Australia a single Rotary voice.
It will be a decision for James and his board as to whether we vote in favour of the trial. However, from my perspective it may be something well worth considering. Congratulation to R.I. for trying something new.

International Report.
Hi Guys.
Knowing that we are close to end this financial year I thought I might take the opportunity to sneak in one more project (see attachment). It is a fair dinkum request, however it has not gone through the proper board meeting as yet. I have checked with the members in the last meeting and I believe the consensus was to go ahead with this project of funding A$ 1.500 to END POLIO NOW project with the aim of scoring Peter Gates contribution as well. This project would allow us to spend close to $ 10.000 as we as board intended to spend on International Services. ( Water PNG 2.500, Vanuatu 2.500, Shelterbox 1850, End Polio Now 1.500)
As Garry is in Bali, Sam Baulch has suggested that he can pay this to the appropriate channels.

Dear Bore
The campaign to eradicate Polio continues ... we are so close but just not there "yet".
The news of the last week underlines once again the importance of our END POLIO NOW campaign …
Two new cases of the wild polio virus (WPV) have been reported – taking the total number for the year to date to five.
The official reports on May 13 indicated that the number of WPV cases for the year so far was 3 – two in Pakistan and one in Afghanistan.
The official weekly report on Thursday, May 19 confirmed that there have been two new cases of WPV – one in Pakistan from the same area as the previous two cases and the second case in Mozambique.
As we know, we are close to eradicating WPV but, as it is still circulating in two known areas therefore, we are likely to have more cases.
FOCUS ON FUND RAISING
With the end of the 2021-22 Rotary year approaching and we know many Clubs leave it until May/June to to distribute their funds, I urge all Club President to consider favourably to contribute vital dollars END POLIO NOW fund.
As of the 22 May 2022, we had 21 Clubs in our District not contributing to PolioPlus and 15 not contributing to Foundation at all. Wouldn’t it be great if we had all Clubs contributing to the Foundation and in particular End Polio Now
OUR AIM
As in previous years Rotary set a goal to raise US$50m, worldwide, by June 30, 202 to ensure we qualify for the 2:1 US$100m bonus from the Gates Foundation.
The goals set are –
US$1,500 contribution from each Rotary Club
20% or part thereof of District Designated Funds transferred - achieved
Ongoing search for major donors at US$10k each
A focus on personal giving – including the Sir Clem Renouf/Bill Boyd END POLIO NOW Clubs at $10 per member
Please take these challenges on board and discuss if you wish to contribute to End Polio Now with your members.

Boré’s view.
It is the end of the financial year. As is traditional, our treasurer has skipped town and was last seen at the airport fleeing Australian jurisdiction. Fortunately, Boré has been working with German authorities to track down our missing treasurer. Boré has located Garry at a poolside bar in Bali, and sends us this report.
Minutes.
Attendance: Nooka reported 24 members present.
Meal: Curry and rice. No pizza entrée, so not the full ‘Sonja Gandhi’, but still very good.
In reports this week;
· Boré informed us that the recent movie night raised $605 as our club’s contribution to End Polio. Boré mentioned that each club was being asked to try to contribute $1500 towards End Polio. No doubt the board will take this into consideration.
· Bruce told a soccer joke.
· Brendan asked all members to download the Stack Team App. We will use this app from now on to manage rsvp’s to all club functions. Please download the app to make Brendan’s life easier.
· Nooka has new hearing aids. He informed us that he and Robbo are leading the footy tipping contest. Nooka still appears not to hear members complaints that the competition is rigged.
· Bob has organised for us to attend a trivia night at Seanchai on Thursday (9th June). Use your newly downloaded Stack Team App to indicate your attendance to Bob.
· Ron informed the club that all the meeting dates listed in the Central Spoke were wrong. Nobody else had noticed and everybody still turned up on the correct day. That is just how it works Ron, but thanks for taking the time to read our humble publication.
A ball was drown out of the barrel, but with that member away Rob Harris took home the excellent bottle of plonk.
