Boré’s View.

Hunting is dangerous.  Sometimes accidents occur.  Pinky once accidentally shot one of his friends, Dick Cheney style, while they were out hunting.  You are probably wondering how such accidents occur amongst seasoned hunters.  Allow us to paint the picture for you.

It is duck hunting season.  Pinky and his mates are spread out around the swamp, dressed in camouflage gear, and hiding in the scrub.  Barrels are loaded, hammers cocked, fingers nervously resting on triggers, everyone looking and listening for the first signs of a duck.

As you contemplate this scene, we will ask you one question; what ring tone do you think Pinky has selected for his phone?  That’s right, Pinky went with the sound of a duck quacking.  If Pinky receives a telephone call while he is duck hunting, he is suddenly going to feel like he just landed on Iwo Jima.

Boré phoned Pinky the other day while he was out duck hunting to find out how it was going, and he filed this report.

We thank Boré for another great cartoon.

Pinky also gets three hole-in-ones.

Last week we reported that Tony Grace scored three hole-in-ones in a row, Kim Jong-Il style, while playing golf.  While this is admirable, Pinky finds golf to be a ridiculously easy game.  Firstly, the golf hole is not moving while you are trying to hit it.  Secondly, if you slightly miss a golf hole and just clip it, the golf hole won’t get angry and charge at you with giant tusks.  Pinky thinks golf is too easy; it is like shooting fish in a barrel.  Actually, this is one of Pinky’s favourite pass times.  Shooting fish in a barrel that is, not golf.  The only club Pinky has in his golf bag is for baby harp seals.

Anyhow, like Gracey, Pinky also recently shot three hole-in-ones in a row and he sends us this report.

What people don't generally realise is how heavily armed the pigs Pinky is shooting at are.

Minutes

Attendance: Glenn counted 25 members and one guest in attendance.  Our guest was past member Graeme ‘Pinky’ Kemp.

Meal: Roast.

Sarg Jon kicked off proceedings with advice on how to buy a Lexus (or Lexii) before introducing President Matt.  The Compass, having caught up on his emails, thanked Jon and stepped to the podium.  Matt thanked Paul for standing in for him last week.  He also thanked Greg for all his work organising the Rotary Exchange program.  Finally, Matt announced the Christmas party will be at his place, Friday 13th of December, 6.30pm until sunrise.  BYO booze, salad and tennis racquets.

In reports;

·       Greg again requested people volunteer as host families for an exchange student.  The decision has been made to host Maria from Brazil next year.  Greg also thanked Ron for his excellent article in this august publication last week.

·       Tony D, advise there will be a small working bee to spread some mulch at the Bromfield Street weir site next Thursday, 28th, at 1.30pm.  This working bee has now been postponed.  Excellent report from me.

·       Lew attended a meeting of the Rotary House Committee on our behalf and updated us on their activities.

·       Hutto asked members to consider giving us a hand with container recycling at the Jericho Cup.  Lew has invited members to drop in to his marquee and help generate ééHutto also advised us that we have seven recycling bins placed around the City Memorial Bowls Club and we will trial container recycling at the venue.

·       Hutto also advised that the Jericho Cup Luncheon has 90 attendees already locked in.  Talk to Hutto if you would like a ticket.

·       Bono, not the Bono from U2, the other bloke, had one simple message for voters in the important upcoming club elections; ‘Vote for the other bloke.’

Pip then introduced guest speaker Pinky by way of a story that highlighted the value of the student exchange program.  After only barely missing out on the quince paste, Pip vacated the podium and allowed Pinky to speak.  Pinky lives in Melbourne now but returns to Warrnambool regularly when something needs to be shot.  Pinky has returned this time to compete in the Australian Sporting Clay Championships.  Best of luck pinky.  Pinky still attends the odd Essendon game and noted that ‘Melbourne is #&*@’.  Not sure if he was talking about the city or the football club.  I hope Melbourne are #&*@ because Essendon have Melbourne’s first round draft pick next year.  We thank Pinky for taking the time to join us.  It was great to see him again.

Pip had not recalled Pinky being such a snappy dresser.

President Matt closed up the meeting by inviting members to a large cardio work out event at the tennis club next Sunday.  Has the President ever met any of our club members?

The barrel was drawn and Boré collected the free meal voucher.  Boré was very surprised for some reason to find out that the meal voucher was for a meal at the Warrnambool Bowls Club.

We are not saying that we are the best Rotary Club in the whole world.  We may not  even in the top three in Warrnambool.  However, we doing pretty well at the moment and we wrapped up another enjoyable, well attended meeting.  I mean, not as well attended as a Warrnambool RC meeting, but you know, you can't have everything.

Lew teaches history.

The great thing about these pictures is it also shows how people drove cars in 1974 and again now in 2024.

Ten Years Ago

Ten years ago, we were enjoying the annual Rotary Club Christmas party.  This photo was taken later in the night.  The kids were still pestering Santa but, by that stage, Santa had reached the end of his tether and was looking for the bar.
