Attendance: Nooka reported a very healthy 24 members and two guests in attendance. It is a tremendous testament the health of the club under Matt’s leadership that in mid-June we have more members at our meetings than Melbourne has premiership points. There is every chance we get to the changeover without Melbourne ever topping our score. Our guests were Maria and our guest speaker Steve Giblin.

Sgt Jon opened the meeting with a terrific family joke before introducing President Matt for the second last time. Matt reported his presidency is now winding down. Matt informed us Scott is home and doing well. Bernadette has very kindly made some carrot soup for Scott. We wish Scott well with his recovery.
Matt advised us the changeover is scheduled for his son’s 20th birthday. It is also your correspondent’s wife’s birthday. Matt was unsure if he was going to the changeover or his family birthday. Your correspondent knows what side his bread is buttered on and will be an apology for the changeover. Choose wisely Matt.
Matt informed the club that Francis will be retiring from Brophy after 34 years. Congratulations to Francis, we wish you a joyful and productive retirement.
Matt also thanked Bob McMillan for the tremendous effort he has put in once again to run the Golden Community Raffle.
In reports;
- Bono extended an invitation to members for the Warrnambool Rotary Club’s changeover on Tuesday June 24th, 6.00 for 6.30 at the Lady Bay Hotel.
- Paul gave us a treasurer’s report, including a donation of $3,170 from the Thoroughbred Luncheon. Great work Hutto.
- Gerald reminded members that our friends at the Neil Porter Legace need some assistance with a barbecue 1.00-1.45 on Tuesday June 24th.
- Dillo spoke about the attempt to resurrect the local Prostate Cancer Support Goup. He reminded members to get their PSA tested,
- Robbo reported that Maria has developed a raking left foot drop punt. He also reported that four club members will be embarking on a road trip to watch Melbourne take on Port Adelaide at the Adelaide oval. Port are one of only four clubs below Melbourne on the ladder so you would have to give the D’s an outside chance. The bookies had fifteenth placed Port as favourites at the time of writing.
- Bono reported on behalf of Gracey that our team had completed 11,077 push ups and raised $1,915 for Lifeline Southwest so far.
- Nooka updated us on the footy tipping. Marlo and Rotten are leading with an impressive 80.
Steve Giblion then spoke to us about his proposed film night to support locals affected by the drought. Steve is a board member of Let’s Talk, has a construction business, and an Angus farm. The proposal is to screen the film ‘Just a Farmer’ in the Koroit theatre on Saturday 12th of July. The film depicts day to day issues of working on a farm with a focus on mental health. The night will be for the local farming community with a focus on mental health. It will be held under the Let’s Talk banner. The film will be followed by a panel discussion about aspects of mental health. Steve is seeking some financial support for the project. We thank Steve for taking the time to speak to us. Hopefully the club can find a way to support the project.
Bob and Maria then conducted the annual Golden Community Raffle draw. A record number of tickets had been sold, injecting tens of thousands of dollars into local sporting and community groups. With the support of Hello World, the club provided $6,000 in prizes and covered the $800 cost of printing the tickets. Great work again from Bob. Thanks also to Dillo and Gracey who helped with the arduous and thirst work of preparing the tickets for the draw. Bob and Maria conducted the draw in a way that was beyond reproach. Winners will be contacted and results published in due course.
