We had a most enjoyable meeting with a light yarding of 24 members plus our inbound exchange students Janick & Leah, together with Glendan Dickinson's guest, and our guest speaker, Shawn Miller,WCC Director of Economic Development.
The film night Bohemian Rhapsody for Thursday, 1 November 2018 was sold out which is excellent.
Our Christmas party this year is to be the tent at the Warrnambool races for the Jericho Cup on Sunday, 2 December 2018.
Our trusty Treasurer Sam Baulch reported that allowing for a few pledges still to be paid we would have a balance in our account of $41,833.25.
Malcolm MacPherson advised the next Auction Committee meeting will be on 8 November 2018 at Brendon O'Neill's home. Malcolm urged willing and/or interested members to attend please so that the meeting does not simply comprise of himself and Brendan! This is a good opportunity for members to get involved in our major fundraising activity, especially if you haven't been able to contribute in other ways for the club in recent times? Please give it serious thought.
Freshly Doug provided half a dozen containers of fresh quail eggs at $5 a pop, with proceeds going to the Peace Concert, and with that we were into our guest speaker, Shawn Miller. Shawn gave us a very informative insight into the City Centre Renewal Project. It is something of interest to everyone in the city, and with $5 million grants from both state and federal governments (matching the city dollar for dollar) it would have been lunacy not to take up the project. On the other hand it's been a real balancing act. Whilst we have probably all been confronted with some negative anecdotal comments, the works look superb and the hard economic data suggests the city is on the up and up. Shawn's ability to access electronic spending data was fascinating in itself.
So interesting was the address that we ran out of time for fines. Solely at the unbridled insistence of Graham Pennington, this correspondence was called up to give the final word on the Volvo saga. In short, a very nice letter from VicRoads referring to his own correspondence to VicRoads two months earlier, apologising for the delay in responding, and explaining VicRoads totally agreed and there was no need to undertake any works on the Volvo at all. The registration was reinstated, and there has been absolutely no need for this correspondent to spend $2000 in cosmetic repairs, or to buy new car. Fabulous! The big winner in all this is our daughter who has undertaken to purchase the "wreck", and it has not been lost on her at all.
Cheers,
