Attendance: Glenn continues to report the figures with such brevity and accuracy that it may be considered by some to be defamatory towards Nooka.  23 members and one guest were in attendance.  Our guest was Adam Smith.  Members did the club proud with their use of the Stack App this week.

Meal: Seniors-sized corned beef.  Many members complained the meals have been too big.  Bob complained the meal was too small.  Bob could try replying twice in the Stack App and see what happens. 

Jon was sick this week, so Dillo stepped into the breach and introduced The Compass.  Matt reported;

·       The memorial for Bruce was lovely, with a good attendance from Rotarians.

·       Jon and Matt completed the CPR course and are ready to revive club members at a moment’s notice.

·       The Science and Engineering Challenge at Deakin university is on Tuesday 13^th of August.  Volunteers are still needed.

·       We welcomed back Bono (and Greg, and Rowan) from their holidays.

·       Bob McMillan, Shane Keogh and your correspondent are celebrating our 20^th year in Rotary. 

 

In reports;

·       Greg advised that the National Youth Science Forum in January will once again be supported by a philanthropic trust thanks to Linsay.  Greg proposed that we once again support a needy student with the $2,850 cost of the event.

·       Greg also informed us that some students from Brauer are looking to go to the National Maths Summer Camp.  We may look to support them also.

·       The Bromfield Weir site revegetation project remains scheduled for Saturday 17^th of August at 10am.  See below for details.

·       Gerald is proposing for us to visit a Rotary Dairy followed by lunch at the Woolsthorpe Hotel.  Members proposed to drive to the hotel.  There seemed to be no viable plan to return home.  The last time your correspondent went to the Woolsthorpe Hotel with members of the Rotary Club, we got the Woolsthorpe Hotel courtesy bus home to Warrnambool.  As we drove back into Warrnambool on the bus, the driver asked, ‘Where do you want me to drop you?’  Without skipping a beat Bob McMillan replied, ‘Crown Casino.’  Gerald’s proposed vocational visit should be an excellent three or four days.

·       Gerald also spoke about the Maths and Science Forum in Terang on August 29^th.  Volunteers are needed so talk to Gerald if you can help.

·       Les organised a Community Service Committee meeting which was attended by Les and one other member.  He now proposes to hold a second meeting to brief absent committee members of the contents of the first meeting.

·       Surf is considering a Trivia Quiz Night at the golf club on the 14^th of November.  Ian observed that the golf club is too good for our members and wondered if a lower-class venue might be more appropriate.  He suggested the Lawn Tennis Club.  Beautiful work Surf.  Members tried to reassure Surf that they could get past the door man at the golf club.

·       Bill and Matt noted the passing of John Rule.  Bill recalled that John had been very generous towards our club.  Both of the houses that the club built had been painted free of charge by John’s business, Hammonds Paints.

·       Brendon reported that he popped around to see Lorraine Ludeman and mow the lawns.  He reported that Lorraine is doing okay.  Thank you, Brendan.

·       Bob advised that the footy tipping competition is still under a Nooka imposed embargo and no results can be reported.

 

Lew conducted and excellent fines session based on the Olympics and we were done for another week.

 

Your correspondent was asked to assist his son with his mathematics homework.  Sure I said, show me what the teachers have given you to work on.

 

Ten years ago, our inbound exchange student Cecilie Sorensen arrived from Denmark.  She was met at the airport by Andy '50 shades of' Grey.  Andy got Cecilie right into the whole Australian experience by taking her out for an Indian meal.  Well done Andy.
