The Brighton RC project continues. Thursday 8 willing Rotarians arrived at Bega ready to transfer the 15 pallets to the Mailors Flat fire station. Most arrived at the location as advised in the email and reinforced at the meeting last week! I leave it to you to guess who went to the wrong place!
The transfer was done in 2 runs and a big thanks to Pip for organising Rowdy Rentch to unload with his forklift. We will send a letter of thanks in due course. Rowdy made the job of unloading so easy.
Stay tuned for the next steps with this project. The 6 C's are currently seeking funding of $11k to allow the installation of small garden sheds at the fire stations to give better storage options than the current cabinets. I will also work with the 6C's on how we will distribute the items from Brighton RC.
We also supported the student day on friday at Terang college where a group led by Gerald helped the day run smoothly. Well done to those that helped out on the day.

New Board Hard at Work.
Brendan reports the dead wood has been cut out of the old board and the new board has hit the ground running, putting in the hard yards for members.
Bishop Lowrey Back at Work.
Lew reports that, unlike the club board, Bishop Lowrey is fighting fit and working hard. He was recently presiding over a service for Vietnam Veterans.
Our late Charter President always had some advice for enthusiastic new club presidents. Bruce would counsel new presidents not to go too hard too early and end up running out of steam before the year was out.
Our new sarg, David, burst out of the blocks with multiple lawyer jokes every week. Lawyers in heaven, lawyers in hell, lawyers in life; David had them all. Unfortunately though, we are only halfway through August and David has already run out of lawyer jokes. David will now have to spend the rest of the year scraping the bottom of the barrel with jokes from his famous Jellie McDonald staff room comedy sets.

Sargeant David gave us a crash course in witness interrogation before introducing our President. Bono was attending his second meeting in a row as President. Bono announced;
The Brighton Rotary Club project has delivered pallets to Bega in Koroit (not Bega in NSW as implied in these pages last week). Members will transport them to the Mailors Flat Fire Station this week.
Bono and Robbo will view a State of Membership webinar shortly.
The presidents of the four Rotary clubs met to explore possible joint projects. To be continued.
Congratulations to Jon for the excellent tree planting day, a good example of a Warrnambool four club project.
Members should email Brendan with their top three preferences for the committee they wish to serve on this year.
In other reports;
Jon thanked Shane, Glenn, Maria, David, Bono and Tony D for planting trees along the Merri on Saturday. 1,000 trees and native grasses were planted, along with fertiliser, wetting agent, mulch mats and tree guards. The plan is for the GHCMA to present to all four clubs on Wednesday 24th of September. More details to follow.
Robbo reported on the Science and Engineering Challenge he assisted together with Les. Robbo advised that it was a good day and encouraged members to get involved next year.
Ron advised us Nooka’s media ban remains in place until the end of the season, so no footy tipping news until it is all done and dusted.
Robbo and Maria continued their Brasil themed fines session from last week. Last week they had no notice before the fines session and were completely unprepared. This week they had a full week to get ready, but were even more disorganised than last week. Good work.
The barrel was drawn and your hard-working correspondent picked up the chocolates. Or, in the case, the chicken schnitzel and gravy.
Rotary Horse Racing report.
Last week Matrooshi travelled to Bendigo to compete in the Sheahan Plumbing handicap. Matrooshi returns to the track as often as North Melbourne returns to the winner’s list. I was optimistic about the horse’s chances until The Age tipped her for the win. I then lost all hope.
Matrooshi got away mid-field. She travelled mid pack over the journey and finished fifth out of eleven while never looking likely. For the record The Age tipster's picks for 1st, 2nd and 3rd came 5th, 8th and 9th. It’s good work if you can get it. I don’t know what is planned next for Matrooshi, but surely a 20 week spell would not be out of the question.

Ten Years Ago.
Ten years ago, Hayesey inducted our first female member, Ann Ellis. All we needed to do for the remainder of the meeting was keep things classy and avoid any crass, blokey humour. Fortunately, someone booked Eric Read and Sparky as guest speakers, so we were all good.
