Merri River School Dinner Auction.

Malcolm writes to inform us that the Merri River School are holding their annual Dinner Auction to raise finds for their new music room.  The auction will be held on Saturday Novermber 18th at 6.00pm at the school.  Tickets are $90 per head and the price includes your first drink and an exceptional 5 course meal provided by Tasty Plate.  Further drinks available at bar prices.  If you would like a ticket please contact Kate on 0488 366 110 or contact Malcolm.

Attendance: Nooka was able to report that the door was ‘working beautifully’ but ‘there was quite a lot of dementia creeping into the club’.  Nooka then returned Les’ credit card to him, which came as a surprise to Le, before reporting an excellent attendance of 26.

Meal: A bowl of corned beef with mustard sauce and vegies.  I am hoping for plate of soup next week.  I suppose that is why it is called a bowls club.

Bob introduced our President before reports were requested.

·       Bob has organised our Christmas party for Thursday 7^th of December at City Memorial Bowls club.

·       Bob gave us an update on the Golden Community Raffle.

·       Les reminded members to attend the Wreckfest parking working bee on Sunday.

·       Rob advised members that he is getting old.

·       Mal extended an invitation to members for the Merri School Auction on the 18^th of November.  Talk to Malcolm if you would like a ticket.

·       Robbo gave us an update on Chris’ health.  We wish Chris a speedy recovery.

·       Brendan is interviewing now for the position of club secretary.  No skills are required.  Please talk to Brendan if you would like to help the club out.

·       Rob reported that the bowling night raised more than $1,000 for the ‘say no to violence’ project.  Congratulations to Les and Boré for supporting the project.

·       Sam has his daughters calendars for sale.

Les then gave us an excellent presentation on classic sledging in sport before Rob gave us an update on the Rotary Regionalisation trial.  The Rotarians present seemed comfortable with the proposed new Rotary governance structure, possibly because they are largely unaware of, or disinterested in, the structure it will replace.  Members then sauntered out into the bright afternoon sun to the quiet clacking sound of men playing lawn bowls.

Ten years ago, we published a photo that was itself quite a few years old.  This is the earliest known photo of the famous Bob McMillan soup strainer, although I believe Bob was delivered as a baby with a fully grown moustache already present.
