It was lovely to see Alan Bowes back. I watched the Grand Final with my husband and Greg Lee and was the only one barracking for Collingwood. Go Pies what a great game and amazing victory. Enough said of the pies as I may get repercussions although we do have a few Collingwood supporters who seemed very happy.

 

Welcome to Laurinda Jane who was our speaker for the night. We had apologies from Brooke and George, Chris Stebbing (get better soon) Andrew Body (who we saw practising his bowls on Sunday at city Memorial) all the others on longer holiday leave.

 

I have thought a lot about Tonys talk over the last week and continue to think how amazing this project is. I had been questioning myself as to why wells etc are not made by the local people themselves. Tony said that the locals would have the skills if shown but had no access to money which you need for materials. The way in which Tony explained made me realise that we so take access to money and materials for granted here. If we see a problem, we really have access to resources to get it fixed. So, without the PNG economy changing this such necessary project could continue with the amazing work long term. It really is life changing.

 

Volunteer Day occurred on Saturday at the Emanual Centre. Tony, Anne Adams, Kelly Curran, Greg Lee and I attended. We had a great day with several potential members expressing interest. Anne is following these people up. We actually had a very funny day and Anne fought hard to keep us in control. We had the Lyndoch table beside us with lovely chocolates and biros on their table. Every time the Lyndoch representative left the table oddly enough his supply of chocolates and biros diminished. Enough said. The Expo was a really good way to see what’s on in the community – there were approximately 46 staffs. Tony and I had to do a presentation on our club which went well to a fairly small audience thanks Kelly for coming to the presentation.

I’ve started a calendar spreadsheet under Projects in excel on our Google Drive for all projects or project related events and the calendar for the speakers remains the same. If you still haven’t a log in to google drive and would like one, please contact Chris Stebbing and he can set you up easily.

A reminder about Rotary Regionalisation – we need to come up with a recommendation for which community group we would like to be in by the end of October, or we will just be placed in one. I have circulated more information on regionalisation and will try and get a questionnaire out today if I can work out how to do it.
