Well wasn’t this a good night at Crossley’s St Brigids with a tour and talk about the church and grounds which have been lovingly restored. I initially wasn’t taken by the blue ceiling but grew to really like it. I particularly liked the stained-glass windows which I’m sure have a story. The garden has been so well done and the Memorial Garden has grown into a beautiful space over the years and is a non-denominational space for people to use for reflection and prayer and just to enjoy.
It is impressive when you look at the Friends of St Brigids website to see the extent and closeness of the local community brought together by this community hub. I think the introduction of the Mens Shed there in 2016 has probably been a major strategic coup. Having such a spiritual place for men to come to where they will find support and friendship is a such good idea and a reflection of the need within the regional communities for mateship and support.
A big thankyou to the Catering Committee for the lovely food. This small sentence doesn’t reflect how good the food and service was – thankyou. We had several apologies including Kelly Curran, Trevor Williams, Leon De Villiers, Peter Smid, Svet Lineham, Brian Trenery, Ann Body, John Hunt, and Keith McLeod. Hope they are all well and to see them all back next week.
The Rotary Club of Port Fairy joined us for the evening of fellowship and President Jed welcomed us on behalf of their club.
Announcements – Rachel Furnell let us know about RYLA coming up and said if anyone has any potential candidates to let her know. Glen let everyone know about the upcoming Golf day at Framlingham and I congratulated the Rotary Club of Warrnambool for being the winners at mini golf against Cobden last week. It appears the Rotary Club of Port Fairy have taken up the gauntlet to compete at golf and we look forward to the challenge on the golf day.
Dennis Bushell from the Friends of St Brigids gave us a very interesting run down about the acquisition and restoration of church and church precinct and some of the challenges and creative solutions they had faced since restoration began.
President Jed then ran through some of the upcoming Rotary projects / events at Port Fairy including the Folk Festival.
Projects Director Tony Austin then outlined some of our Clubs projects including the Memorial Garden, very successful Book Sale, New Guinea Project and more.
We went on to have some more fellowship with The Rotary Club of Port Fairy and finished the evening a little later than usual but it was a most enjoyable evening.

Port Fairy Folk Festival _ one volunteer needed
We still need one volunteers to fill two vacant shifts .
The vacant shifts are Friday evening/Saturday afternoon
Undertaking 2 shifts entitles the volunteer to a weekend festival pass valued at $365.
The crowd management task is not onerous and essentially involves providing directions within the Tent.

If you are less than 10 years old, you are so excited about aging, you think in fractions.
I am four and half going on five.
You are never thirty-six and a half!
When in your teens, you jump to the next number or even a few ahead.
I’m gonna be 16! You could be 13, but hey, you’re gonna be 16!
And the greatest day of your life ……you become 21 !
Even the words sound like a ceremony. You become 21!!! Yesssss!
But then you turn 30. Ooooooh! What happened here?
You become 21, turn 30, then you are pushing 40. Whoaaa!
Put on the brakes!
Before you know it, you reach 50!
But wait!! You make it to 60. You weren’t sure you would!
So, you become 21. Turn 30. Push 40. Reach 50 and make it to 60.
You’ve built up so much speed that you hit 70!
After that it is a day-by-day thing.
You get into your 80’s and every day is a complete cycle;
you hit lunch; you turn 4:30; you reach bedtime!
And it doesn’t end there. Into your 90’s you start going backwards.
I was just 91!!
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a
little kid again. I’m 100 and a half!
May all of us make it to 100 !!!?
(P.S. When “sister Jose” made a point of mentioning my birthday, the audience’s response turned that into the best and biggest birthday party of my life!! Never too late! JOHN.)

Over the weekend, our club helped to sponsor the Veterans and Families weekend run by Adam Kent. Many members attended a social night on Saturday night to meet the many families. We look forward to hear from Adam on Tuesday night.
Blister-pack Recycling Trial Program
The environment is a new area of focus for Rotary. The four Rotary Clubs of Warrnambool are working to implement a variety of environmental projects in our community. Accordingly, the four Rotary clubs (Rotary Club of Warrnambool Daybreak, Rotary Club of Warrnambool, Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central and the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East) have begun a medical blister-pack recycling trial program across Warrnambool. The trial project has received support and funding from Warrnambool City Council through their Community Development Fund, meaning that pharmacies and businesses participating in the project will not incur any cost during the trial period.
Currently, most medical blister-packs in our region go into landfill. This project aims to divert this waste from landfill by collecting the blister-packs and forwarding them to Pharmacycle, a company in NSW which sorts and recycles the material.
The collection process is very easy. Community members can recycle their pharmaceutical
blister packs by dropping them into collection boxes in the following locations;
Anchor Point Retirement Villiage, 55 Aberline Road.
Archie Graham Community Centre, 118 Timor Street.
Direct Chemist Outlet Target, Shop T11, 154 Koroit Street.
Infinity Pharmacy Warrnambool, 143-149 Lava Street.

District 9810 Conference in Warnambool March 22 – 24 2024
Rotarians from Melbourne District 9810 are having their Conference in Warrnambool on the 22 – 24 March. On the 22 March the WRC will be hosting a Golf Day at East Framlingham GC and a Bowls Day at Dennington Bowls club. The aim is to give the participants of conference a taste of Warrnambool. We are hoping that Rotarians from our clubs in Warrnambool might participate in either of the events. The aim is to support the conference and to meet rotarians from the Melbourne District 9810.
