President's Message 04/08/2022

It was good to see everyone at Rotary on Tuesday evening.

We had apologies from Tony Austin, who is away for the month, Brian Trenary,  Chris Stebbing, and Brooke Jensen.  We hope those who are on the sick list are back with us soon and those who are having fun are taking care.

I had a phone chat with Margaret Ross during the week she is feeling well again and sends her greetings Now that she is living in Warrnambool she is hoping to join us for our meetings when the weather warms up

Thank you to Graeme Ward for organising our tree planting day at the Hopkins Falls.

By now you will all have received the brochure for the Garden Show. Please share it around. Thank you to Janet Blackley and Chris Stebbing for putting it together

Sharon Kenny faced the hard questioning from John Hunt and it was great to hear about some of her life before Warrnambool.

Finally, we have a bit on, and we need to get behind Brooke with the Science and Engineering Challenge and Ian with Father of the Year, and don't forget our August 23rd meeting with Guest Speaker RI Director Jessie Harman. That will be a partners night, bring a guest and invite anyone you think may be interested in joining Rotary.

Garden Pots
To help us with our garden day coming up in November, former member Isobel Siebel is doing some potting up of things from her garden which can be sold on the day.
However she is running short of plastic garden pots. I am asking if anyone has any spare 8" (20cm) or 10" (25cm) plastic pots to contact me, on 0429672446 and I will arrange to pick them up.

New Badges
Approval was granted by the Board to Classification changes requested by members. If anyone still wishes to make a change, I need to hear from you ASAP so I can lodge all orders together.

Emergency Contact list
is almost updated. Thankyou to everyone for checking with me that your contact details are correct. Please contact Judy if you need to update emergency contacts for yourself.

Annual Reports
were distributed at Changeover last week and also at Tuesday night's meeting. If you haven't received one, please let me know as I still have plenty. Many thanks to David Brown for printing them for us.

The 5c Jar
is now known as The Loose Change Jar.  We will continue collecting money for the END POLIO NOW project. We are THIS CLOSE.

Ian
Big thanks to John Beks, Chris, George, Robbie, Anne Adams and Janet for the drop off and collection this week of entries from all the schools, much appreciated.
Important reminder to all members for their much needed assistance with the big task of screening all entries this Tuesday 9th August at the Football Club from 4.00pm onwards. If you can be there at 4.00, great, if not, please get there as soon after as you can. Big job to be done, but a very rewarding one to look at the very heart warming nominations.
The meeting afterwards will also concentrate on FOTY and maybe some further judging of entries.

On the Couch with John
During this week's meeting we had a wonderful chat with new member Sharon to get to know her. As always, John did a wonderful job as an interviewer asking the hard hitting questions.
highlights we learnt about Sharon include:
- Born in WA, went to school in Hughenden QLD
- 2 beautiful sons who live in Melbourne
- Moved to Warrnambool to be closer to the boys and for a new adventure
- Works with the amazing Brophy team
- has been an extra on 'Neighbours'!
A big thanks to the volunteers on Sunday who braved the cold day to help the Hopkins Falls Landcare group in planting native plants throughout the environment. See photos below.

On this day in history...
The U.S. space probe Phoenix was launched, and a year later it landed on Mars. Among its most-important discoveries was the existence of water ice beneath the planet's surface.
