Members Announcements

Ian: Father of the Year. Reminder that next Mon/Tues all entries need to be collected from the schools. Members involved are aware of their collection points. On Tuesday Aug 13th, anyone who can help out with the initial screening it would be greatly appreciated. Starting prior to the meeting at 5pm.

Delia: Envision Hands – I will bring along a bucket each week to collect plastic bottle tops to send of to Envision hands. This project is being supported by Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Wyndham.

Envision Hands are on a mission. Our mission is to create 100 bespoke aids out of bottle caps, with 3D printers, which we will then donate to children in in need.
Inspired by the Enabling the Future organization we will be participating in the world wide community making and donating 3D printed bespoke aids for children in need across under-serviced countries. The major difference is our project will be using recycled plastic from bottle tops, thus also benefiting the environment.
Bottle caps are fully recyclable. Unfortunately, as reported on ABC’s ‘War on Waste’, they aren’t being recycled. They get sent to landfill, they fall through machinery, and in worst case scenarios, if attached to a bottle, they can explode and force expensive re packing issues.
This overlooked waste product is almost entirely made from HDPE 2 (High Density Poly-Ethylene). After considerable experimentation we have successfully taken this plastic and extruded it to create functioning filament for 3D printers. Once we have the filament we 3D print all the components that make up the hand.

Guest Presenter
Chairman Graeme Ward introduced our Guest Presenter Anthony Leddin from Plant Breeders Without Borders.

An amazing presentation with a lot of very valuable information. If you were not present at the meeting and want to know more, then you would be best to go to the following website http://pbwob.org/
to look up the information or speak to a club member who was present. Anthony is obviously very passionate about Plant Breeders without Borders and the work they are doing.

Our Club made a donation of $200 + $100 (from Svet’s fundraising). This will go towards providing tools for farmers to create a variety of different crops.
