Welcome: Peter welcomed Rotarians and guests to the first meeting of Spring -September 2nd.
The shipping container has arrived and has been placed at the Warrnambool Show grounds. Thanks to Tony, Ken and George for their work so far. You can find a photo of the container arriving below.
Peter reported on the Peace Poles. The Warrnambool City Council have rejected the proposal to place the poles at the Civic Green. Peter is now considering other venues such as the grounds of the TAFE college.
Member announcements: As a member of the Relay for Life Committee Debbie asked if members would be interested in putting forward a team at the next event on Saturday 21st February 2026. If people are interested they can contact Debbie
Garden Show: Ann is looking for a further two gardens. She asked that everyone ask their family and friends if they are interested or know anyone who maybe. It is feared that we may have to cancell the event if more gardens are not found.
Leon introduced our guests for the evening; Ann Davis and DJ Gerrie from Community Radio 3WAY FM.
Ann gave us an insight into its history which began in 1985 when a community meeting was held with over 100 people in attendance. CREW (Community Radio Endeavour Warrnambool) began with 2-3 weeks testing before the application was ready for the licence. WCC funded the first transmitter through a community grant. The licence was granted in September 1990.
3WAY FM operated out of a number of locations before finding their current home in Hyland Street which has been renovated to meet their current needs. They have three newly refurbished studios, a club room for CREW members and a multi functional space.
They operated from 8.00am until 12 midnight daily and use community Radio Network for midnight until 8.00am. It offers a wide range of services and music from Country to Metal. The Reading of the Standard occurs from 12.30 -1pm. They are run totally by volunteers as a community service which supports local artists and musicians.
They relied on heavily on sponsors, grants and memberships with operating cost of $30,000 per years. They are proud to have supported a many of well known artists such as Tom Ballard, Alex Dyson and Dave Hughes to name a few.
