Chairman Tony's Message

President Kelly wasn’t available to chair our meeting, so the club had to put up with me again.

Apologies were received from President Kelly, Rob McDonald, Svet Lineham, Debbie Ferguson and Graeme Ward.
We had guests including Maria, Mary Bouwman, Zoe Dammon (our guest speaker) and Katie.
Member’s announcements included:
  • Anne: a reminder that there are 3 dates upcoming where we will not be at the bowls club. We needs numbers for these events, so it is assumed that you are attending unless RSVPing to Anne otherwise.
    NYSF Night: $30pp
    May Race Night: $25pp
  • Brooke/George:  George made the club aware of some freebie items from “Bed, Bath & Table” that Brooke had made available to us.
  • Judy promoted the End Polio Now loose change jar and advised us that, for the time being, bread tags are not being collected.
  • Rachael: our club will sponsor Bethanie ? from Hamilton as a RYLA participant..
  • Brooke: Interviews for January 2026 outbound youth exchange applicants are being organised. Persons who would like to work on this project are being sought.
  •  Angela: A big thank you to the volunteers who helped to make the book sale a great success.   It seems we may have taken around $6700 over the three days.  A fantastic effort.
  • David: Also a big thank you to the 20 volunteers (170 hours) who helped atr the Folkie.  David reminded us that we have participated in the Folkie for 15 years.  All going well our volunteers could earn us in the order of $5000
  • Robbie let us know of a musical Bingo night 15 March at 8:00pm
  • Glen spoke about his and Marion’s participation in the Great Ocean Walk training at Apollo Bay in preparation for the main walk in May. The training route was 102 kilometres but, when including the side track walks, Glen and Marion walked around 130 kilometres (15kms per day at around 4kms per hour).
  • I won $3.00 in the swindle!!!!.
  • Greg made the club aware of changes to conditions for residents of Lyndoch being implemented by the Lyndoch administration.  These included residents being denied some of their social and group activities, particularly their music program. Greg also commented on the extremely limited food menu available under the new administration.
  • Greg asked that Rotarians make as many people as possible aware of the situation in the hope that community concern may force the administration to rethink.
Guest Speaker:  Warrnambool and Moyne L2P program coordinator Zoe supported by Katie spoke about how the program works and what is involved.  The program has been operating in our are for 15 years.  It provides a mechanism to assist young people (16-21) to achieve 120 hours of supervised driving practice.  The program is TAC and community funded.  The cars, fuel and insurance are all provided by Brophy.
Zoe commented that the program is always looking for volunteers. Training for volunteers is provided by Brophy (Zoe) and the TAC.

PAROPROSDOKIANS.
Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence is surprising or unexpected, even frequently humorous.

Where there’s a will, I want to be in it.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you.
But it is still on my list If we agree with you, we’d both be wrong.
We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
War does not determine who is right, only who is left.
To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
I used to be indecisive.
Now I'm not so sure.
To be sure of hitting your target, shoot first and call what you hit the target. You're never too old to learn something stupid.
Why do Americans choose from just 2 people to run for President and 50 for Miss America?
A clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.
The voices in my head may not be real, but they have good ideas! Always borrow money from a pessimist, they won’t expect it back.
Hospitality: making your guests feel like they’re at home, even if you wish they were.
