Congratulations to those involved in the Memorial Tree Project, particularly Janet, Tony and Sarah from this Club. The ceremony was blessed with fine weather and a good attendance, including Dan Tehan who had travelled from a meeting in Coleraine that morning. As Tony observed this is one of our most significant projects in recent Club history and a wonderful contribution to our community.
Peter reported to members the decisions of the Board meeting last Tuesday.
Peter and Dianne from the Kiwanis Club of Warrnambool spoke about the role of Kiwanis in our community. Kwanis was formed in 1915 in Michigan and has around 600,000 members in 80 countries. The Warrnambool Club is 52 years old.
Like Rotary it is a service Club that raises funds to support worthy local causes with a particular emphasis on children and family welfare. Its main fundraising is through conducting barbecues and film nights.
They annually support the Clontarf Academy, the I CAN Program, and the SWHC Cancer Centre. Globally they have worked with Kiwanis International and UNICEF to eliminate iodine deficiency disorders and are now working to help eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus. "Kids need Kiwanis"
