What a great start to Tuesday night with a visit to One Day Studios and Gareth Colliton who was our speaker for the night. Gareth is a fantastic artist and is doing great things. He works with children in primary schools as well as children with disabilities. What an amazing effort a 13-year-old already producing a graphic novel
and being published. Making figurines and selling them what a great achievement. Gareth has also an illustrator and published a few books of his own. When l worked at Warrnambool Books l got the pleasure to do a book launch with Gareth on his amazing graphic novels. Member announcements
- Ann Donaldson thanked everyone for helping out at the quilt show and thanked Tony for all his input. Ann said she has received lots of positive feedback and made $3,200 and made $1,170 for the raffle.
- Anne Adams added to Ann Donaldson and Red Cross did the catering and raised $2,293 and were pleased with the outcome.
Anne is book sale ready and is needing more people to help. Next working bee is this Thursday and Anne will be there and then another working bee on Saturday at 9am. Please get in touch with Anne if you can help out.
- Robbie Blackmore is organising a social day at Timboon and will head to the strawberry farm to pick some strawberries and will go out for lunch and will go to the fudge factory for tasting and to the ice creamery. Date is 16th February and if you would like to go, please contact Robbie.
- Judy Ross gave us an early warning that the Melbourne to Warrnambool is not far away and in looking for volunteers which is held on 8th and 9th February and if anyone can help out, please contact Judy.

will take place in the April 2025 school holidays. We are seeking participants to attend aged between 18-25 at the time of the camp. Applications will open around October. If you have anyone in mind, please contact Rachel.

Youth Exchange
Rotary internationally promotes youth exchange across the globe. Our district has 3 incoming 16 year old students for the 2025 year. Maria from Brazil will be living here in Warrnambool, and as such we are looking for homestays for Maria. This basically means taking on board Maria in your house for a minimum of 6 weeks. She will be attending school and volunteering at Rotary events while here in Warrnambool. If you are not able to take her on board, there are options that if you are doing something fun or 'cool', you are welcome to take Maria along as she is here is experience everything Australian culture. Peter has offered to bring her to the Australian Open for example.

Youth Exchange Update!
For those who are not aware of youth exchange processes, typically, the youth exchange process is a 1 person for 1 person process. This means that, if we send a person out on youth exchange, it is asked that we also take in one person.
Outbound
Lexi Forbes, who is a student at Emmanuel College, has just left for a year in France with the Rotary Club of Templeuve-En-Pevele (ask George for pronunciation). This has been organised through the Rotary Club of Warrnambool Central. Over the weekend, Lexi and many of the outbound students started their journey to their new home for the next 12 months. Pictured below is Lexi at a meeting with President Matt Northeast from Rotary Central, and the other photo is District Governor Lesley Shedden with all of the outbound students at Melbourne Airport.
Inbound
Late last year we had the pleasure of Greg Allison visit our club to talk about the inbound student for Youth Exchange. To help foster Youth Exchange in our region post covid, both Rotary Central and our club have joined together to support Maria, our inbound student from Brazil. Maria is 17 and will be attending Emmanuel College. Currently, Maria is waiting for her visa to be approved; but the moment that it is, she will be flying out here as soon as she can. It is hoped she will be here by the end of the month. We also have other Youth Exchange students arriving across our district over the coming month, and they will be visiting Warrnambool from time to time.
Greg and Brooke will be the mentors for Maria. Maria will be staying with George and Brooke as the 1st host family, with some other families in talks with Greg about further hostings. If you have questions about hosting, or are interested, please contact Greg on 0400 664 457. This also goes for if you are doing something interesting and would like to take Maria to experience something, Greg and Brooke are you go to.

Hello, Dear host family, my name is Maria Clara, I'm 16 years old, and I am
Brazilian. It has been my dream since I was a kid to spend some time abroad, and live this whole different experience of leaving all my family, friends and
everything I know behind to go to another country and live a completely different life, and routine from what I'm used to. I'm really excited about it, and I think it will be an amazing experience, I'm also very excited about meeting all the people and being able to learn a new culture, and language.
I know I'll meet amazing people with whom I will be able to share about culture and life in general, also I hope to have good and memorable moments. When I come back to Brazil, I expect to have a lot of knowledge, moments and experiences to share with the people here.
The Folkie is just around the corner!
Each year we provide volunteer support to the folkie. The requirement is for each volunteer to work two shifts of 6 hours a shift over the course of the long weekend in Tent 5 as ushers providing guidance/directions to festival patrons. In return for this work volunteers receive a weekend pass to the Folkie.

The Rotary Club of Warrnambool East Hole in One fundraiser runs from Boxing Day to Australia day at Viaduct Rd Warrnambool - one person will win a car on shootout day.
