President's Message

May Races were on this week, and we headed out to Wangoom Hall to celebrate. It was great to see everyone dressed up and get into the spirit. Thank you to Terry for organising a cup sweep and Terry will announce the winners on Tuesday night. Congratulations to Rob McDonald and Joan Austin for best dressed. I forgot to bring out the prizes and you will receive them on Tuesday night. From all reports our local trainers did extremely well over the 3 days and had a great turn out over the racing carnival. I did not get a chance to go as l had work commitments, but a few members of the club went and hopefully you had a great day and didn’t lose to much.

Emmanuel College have a RYDA workshop coming up on the 13th May and need 6 volunteers to help out on the day. It will be from 8.30am and will finish up around 2.40pm. If you can help out, please get in touch with Chris asap.

Tuesday night Tony asked if anyone could help out Janet on Sunday as there were quiet a few trees to plant. There was a great response, and the trees were planted in no time. Thank you, Tony and all members and friends of Rotary, for helping out on the day. It was great to see Janet and we all had a wonderful afternoon.

Thank you to Val, Joan, Phillip, Maree and Jack Joyce for coming along and celebrating May Racing carnival with us.

Apologies for the night: Svet Lineham, Peter Smid, Brian Trenery, Janet Blackley, Glen Brotchie, Rachel Furnell, Cathy Bligh, Shron Kenny and David Brown.

Wisecrack of the week
From John Beks
AND GOD CREATED MOTHERS
When the good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day of overtime, when an angel appeared and said: "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one".
And the Lord said: "Have you the specification on this order? She has to be completely washable, but not the plastic ... have 180 movable parts, all replaceable ... run on black coffee and leftovers ... have a lap that disappears when she stands up ... a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to disappointed love affairs, and six pairs of eyes."
“That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.
The Lord nodded, "One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, "What are the children doing in there?", when she already knows. Another in the back of her head, that sees what she has to know. And of course, the one in front that can look at a child, when he gets himself into trouble and say "I understand and love you" without "so much as muttering a word.
"Lord", said the angel touching his sleeve gently, "Go to bed. Tomorrow is another ..."
"I can’t", said the Lord. "I'm so close now. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick, can feed a family of six on one pound of mince and get a nine year old to have a bath."
The angel circled the model of the mother very slowly. "It's too soft” she sighed.
"But tough" said the Lord excitedly, "You cannot imagine what this mother can do or endure".
"Can it think?"
"Not only think, but it can reason and compromise", said the Lord.
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her fingers across the cheek.
"There's a leak," said the angel.
"It's a tear".
"What is it for?"
"It's for joy, sadness, disappointments, pain, loneliness, and pride"
"You are a genius", said the angel
The Lord looked sombre. "I DIDN’T PUT IT THERE."
Walking Group on again!
9am meeting at the Pavilion. Social coffee at the cafe post walk
Reports for the Changeover Annual Report
Rotarians I have been tasked with getting reports together for our Changeover annual
report. The Changeover being 24 June.
The following is a list of office bearer’s, service areas, activities and the people who
“champion” them.
There may be others that I have missed. If so please let me know.
If you are an office bearer, or “responsible” for a project, fund raiser or activity can you
provide an overview suitable to be included in the annual report please.
To facilitate the compilation of the report easier and for consistency of appearance
please use the Arial Font at font size 11 point and do not include any complex formatting.
Where appropriate please provide one or a small number of images in .jpg format.
These will greatly enhance the appearance of your report.
To have the report ready for the Changeover I need everything finalised, at the latest, 6
June (approximately 2 weeks prior). I will also send reminders prior to that.
