President Peter is off on an adventure in Japan, so we are rotating through some acting Presidents
It was wonderful to see so many faces at the meeting this week including the return of many of our travelling Rotarians! I look forward to some of their stories in the coming weeks.
There are many events coming up (ours and other clubs), so make sure you have a read through the upcoming events list and see where you can help out. Tony needs to know everyone's availbility for the upcoming Warrnambool and Noorat shows. These are really important events as the money the club gets paid to do them lowers our yearly membership fees. It is also helpful if you have a family member or friend that can help.
The Rotary Club of Cobden is holding a family fun day on Oct 4th. This is to support CFA members and farmers. I've posted the flyer lower in this bulletin. Please pass on the details to all people you know within those communities. I am also calling on any volunteers that can help out on the day. Rotary Cobden has helped us financially this year with 3 major projects and more than $3000. It's time to help in return. I'll be setting up the face paint activity for kids, but if anyone can help on a BBQ, taking tickets, logistics on the day and more, we would love your help. Please message me if you can help.
This week our guest was Will Sloan from the Circular Economy department at the Warrnambool City Council. Will has such passion for his work within our community, and it is always a pleasure to have him talk through upcoming plans within waste management here in Warrnambool.
Will had a variety of handouts and infographics with him for members to take. This included a new sticker for you recycling bin which helps to determine which plastics can and cannot go into your kerbside recycling bin.
FYI, Resin codes (triangle with 3 arrows and number) doesn't mean can be recycled. These codes indicate what type of plastic they are. If the 3 arrow triangle doesn't have a number in it, this is considered the general recycling symbol.
Australia over the last few years has developed easier to understand recycling labels on products to help determine which bin it goes into, this is called the Australasian Recycling Label and looks like this:
You can visit the ARL website to learn more about this labelling system:
https://arl.org.au/about
You can read more information that Will and his team has developed on the council's website. If you ever unsure about a particular item and which bin it should go in, you can also contact the team through this web page: https://www.warrnambool.vic.gov.au/waste-management
Apologies:
