Brooke's Message (Sorry Anne)

As our wonderful President is enjoying herself up north in Townsville, it was business as usual this week at Rotary.

Janet did a wonderful job of filling in for Anne. Janet has reminded everyone to check their working with childrens check to see if they are in date. If it is not, please see Janet for help to update it.

Ann Donaldson is collecting donations for the Backpacks 4 kids VIC Santa Sacks. Donations can include games, toys, sports items, craft items (non toxic), story books, new/as new soft toys, or money direct to Ann. Ann has had some great donations so far and mentions they need ideas for teenaged boys.

This week we had a wonderful 'on the couch' with John Hunt interviewing Leon de Villiers. See review below.
This week coming, Svet will be running us through a short food safety course to update our training.

It's been wonderful within the past few weeks having visiting Rotarians within our club. We have recently received this message...
"Please pass on our thanks to the RC of Warrnambool for their generous hospitality on Tuesday night. It was a tremendous sight witnessing the club in action packing the birthing kits.  The club was very generous with their offers of assistance in many different ways."
Mardi and John Shepherd.

Have a great weekend everyone

Badge Duty
As mentioned on Tuesday night, now we have our new Dinner Badges, and the Badge board has been adapted to hold them, we will re-commence the role of Fellowship duty each week, whereby two members will greet members and guests and hand out the name badges.  Judy will be keeping a grip on the Badge board until the storage area is sorted out - currently a huge mess - not a safe repository for over $700 worth of badges.  She will be up at the Footy club by 5.45pm each Tuesday night to hand over the board to the members on duty

The roster for the rest of September and October is as follows:

4th October - Ann Donaldson and Sharon Kenny

11th October - Tony Austin and Sharon Kenny

18th October - Progressive dinner

25th October - Janet Blackley and Kelly Curran

If for any reason you are rostered and can't be there, would you please let Judy know ASAP, and she will arrange for someone else to fill in, or you can arrange your own replacement and let Judy know. (0429 672 446)

How was your grand final day?

From John Beks:
A picture says it all!  Savouring yet another goal  with my granddaughter (and others) !!!  GO CATS !!!!
P.S. When one gets to my age, the number of Premierships in the future are going to be less frequent.  I know!!! My other team, Port Fairy won their last premiership in 1958 .... Say no more!
From George:
The Goodall's hosted their famous Grand Final party, with enough food to feed a small army!

John Hunt who attended the Grand Final at the MCG mentioned that he sat very close to Sam Newman!

Good luck to both teams in the NRL Grand Final this Sunday. I'll be cheering for the Paramatta Eels as the poor club hasn't won a premiership in 36 years! - Brooke
On the Couch with John

This week it was fantastic to hear Leon talk with John about his fantastic experiences. Born in South Africa and attending the University of Johannesburg for Civil and Structural Engineering. Initially working on railways, Leon took the move out to Australia. Having lived in a few locations across Australia including Adelaide, Toowoomba and Warrnambool, Leon has transitioned into risk management work, and works locally within the health industry and the IT departments. He mentioned that one of the biggest threats currently is the cyber security within the IT sector. Sadly Leon has no relation to AB de Villiers, but has played come cricket and rugby. These days Leon loves a game of Golf and aims to get to the green twice a week.

Welcome back Leon, we look forward to your friendship in the time to come.

On this day in history

In 1961...
Julia Gillard, who in 2010 became Australia's first female prime minister, was born in Wales.
