Thank you to John Beks for arranging the excellent program for our meeting. The video brought back so many memories for those of us involved. It was a pleasure to welcome Casey Valence, John's granddaughter who featured in the video. It was a reminder that we
cannot take anything for granted, but also how much the equipment and training has been improved. It really is a miracle more lives were not lost.
We also welcomed Janet Blackley's guest, Greg Lee. We hope he can come again to our meeting. It was good to have Sharon Kenny's son Joe along as well He helped to lower the average age.
Our board meeting last week agreed to support the volunteer training program at Warrnambool and District Community Hospice. This will be a commitment of $10000 a year for the next 3 years.
We had apologies from Alan Bowes, Rachel Furnell, Brian Trenery, Svetlana Lineham, Brooke Jensen, George McLeod and Cathy Bligh.
There has been great support from Members as in past years however we still need another 4 volunteers to fill 8 shifts .
The vacant shifts are across the 3 days (Friday evening/Saturday afternoon & evening/Sunday evening/Monday morning.)
Undertaking 2 shifts entitles the volunteer to a weekend festival pass valued at $365.
The crowd management task is not onerous and essentially involves providing directions within the Tent.

Anne has been contacted by Marg Wagner from 'Enhance Work Placement Experience for Everyone' in regards to billeting under 18s throughout the year to help complete their tafe courses here in Warrnambool. These students live remotely and need to complete intensive elements here at our south west tafe campus. This program has a MOU with our district and is being asked of all clubs within our area. If you are interested, please talk to Anne. Brooke can also forward on the flyer and information.

MELBOURNE TO WARRNAMBOOL: A very big thankyou to the 10 members who joined me in volunteering as marshals last weekend. It is not an arduous task and it is great to be a small part in making this iconic event the success it is. Maybe some more of you might consider putting your hand up next year.
HI-VIS VESTS: We are missing several vests and I ask if you could please check and see if you may have one lurking in a dark corner somewhere, (at home, in the car, at work, in the shed???). If you do find one, could you please check and see if it is clean and bring it back so we have a full complement of vests once more. Many thanks.
LIDS FOR KIDS: Please continue to bring along your washed milk bottle tops. Svet and her Girl guides are working with Lauren, who came and spoke to us. You can give the lids to Svet or Judy. Bread tags are also still being collected.
SMALL CHANGE JAR: Many thanks to you all for your continued support of our fund-raising to END POLIO NOW. Your generosity has meant the jar has been getting very heavy and increasingly hard to carry. So Anne and Judy decided to empty it (over lunch followed by a visit to Decked out on Bank in Port Fairy - - just joking!!!). The money has been stored safely and will be combined with any further donations prior to the usual "guessing" competition at the end of the year.
If for any reason you are rostered and can't be there, would you please let Judy know ASAP, and she will arrange for someone else to fill in, or you can arrange your own replacement and let Judy know. (0429 672 446) Judy will be up at the Footy club by 5.45pm each Tuesday night to hand over the Badge board to the members on duty.

Remembering Ash Wednesday 1923
Ash Wednesday (16 February 1983) experienced over 100 fires swept across Victoria and South Australia, killing 75 people and causing widespread damage. High temperatures, intense winds, and low summer rainfall caused a high fire danger in Victoria's eucalypt forests.
A total of 47 people died, and 2,080 homes were destroyed in Victoria. Many businesses, stores, equipment, machinery, stock, and other private assets were also destroyed. The total cost of the property-related damage in Victoria was estimated to be over $200 million.
