President Peter's Report

Thank you Anne, Brooke, Rachel and George for filling in for me in September.
I'm pleased to see members that have been overseas and in all parts of Australia home safe and sound.
Sorry that Janet has resigned as Secretary.  She has given great service in that role for many years, thanks Janet.  Thanks Chris for stepping up to take on the role.
The WRACS drought assistance fund is in the process of giving 32 eligible farmers in the District.  $500 credit cards, possibly 2 cards each because of the low number of applicants.  I've been asked to vouch for local farmers.  If you know of any farmers that could benefit  from this scheme please let me know.  I spoke to one recipient.  They have spent $650,000 on feed this year.  Their children have been told not to expect Christmas presents this year.
I found Japan a fascinating country, very tidy and organised.  We went to Hiroshima and I expected to easily find the original first Peace Pole.  Not so.  Went to the Tourist Information Centre and with great difficulty asked about them.  I think they said the very first one is on an island close by.  We did manage to stumble across two Peace Pole on our journey.
I attended the Rural Voices event at the Lighthouse theatre on Friday, Mental Health Day.  David Hughes was theMC and had Leila McDougall, Wayne Schwass and Uncle Paul as key note speakers.  Their very powerful message was that sharing one's mental health issues is the best way to recovery.  Congratulations to Wellways and Let's Talk for hosting this inspiring event.
Our Rachel was our guest speaker last  week.  Rachel is the District 9780 Chair for RYLA and her presentation was on that fantastic program.  RYLA is an opportunity for young adults to develop personal and professional skills that can be life changing. The course is held over 6 days from the 12th to 17th April at Kangaroobie, Princetown.  It can accomodate up to 55 participants.  The professional leadership team running the course have been doing it for many years and excel in developing friendships and bonds between the participants through challenging physical and mental exercises.  The Horsham Rotary Club is providing the "Mum" and "Dad" roles that support the youth through the program.  Applications are now open.  If you know of anyone aged 18 to 25 you think could be a good candidate please let Rachel know.

Apologies: Judy, George, Brooke, David, Rob, Graeme, Keith, Sarah, Anne Adams, Cathy, Ann Donaldson and Angela.

 WISECRACKS from John Beks
I'VE LEARNED.........(Part 2)

I've learned.......
that to ignore the facts doesn't change the facts,
that when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
that love, not time, heals all wounds.
that the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround
myself with people smarter that I am.

I've learned.....
that everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.
that there's nothing sweeter than sleeping with your babies and feeling their breath on your cheek.
that no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.
that life is tough, but I am tougher.

I've learned .....
that opportunities are never lost: someone will take the ones you miss
that when you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere
that I wish I could have told my Mum that I love her one more time; before she passed away.
that one should keep his words soft and tender, because tomorrow one
might have to eat them.

I've learned ......
that a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
that I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.
that when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger
in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
that everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all happiness and growth occurs, while you're climbing it.

I've learned .......
that it is best to give advice in only two circumstances;
when it is requested and when it is a life threatening situation.
that the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.
