President Peter is off on an adventure in Japan but his time away is coming to an end.  We hope he travels safely and returns to us soon.

Last Wednesday evening, 25 of our members joined with four other Rotary groups from our region, in a joint meeting.  This meeting was planned for social interaction between the clubs and to allow representative from the CMA to talk with us all about their role and our support to their projects.  The most recently being the planting of shrubs and trees along the Merri River at Bromfield Street.  Working with the Warrnambool City Council it was decided the weir at this site should be removed to ensure the health of the river.  Tree planting in this area will support the ongoing health of the river and its inhabitants.  River checks since initial plantings has shown a significant improvement in fish numbers and types.
They are responsible for many of the waterways in our region and work alongside farmers, landholders and the community to ensure a good outcome for all.  They are working on platypus habits and hoping to increase their numbers.
Should you be interested in find out more about the CMA then please chat to Graeme at our next meeting.
Brooke also presented a report on the Science and Engineering Challenge sharing all the statistic on who are benefitting from  such opportunities.  Her report supported the valuable experiences that our young rural students are receiving.  It was agreed by all that it needs all our support to continue.
Brooke also introduced us to the student we will be supporting to attend the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) program in January 2026.  He is currently attending boarding school in Ballarat as his previous school Kings College is unable to provide the science course he interested in completing. He is interested in a career in some form of Science.
Brooke is looking for other Rotary members to come on board and assist her with providing such worthy programs.  Please have a chat with Brooke if you are interested.
There are many events coming up (ours and other clubs), so make sure you have a read through the upcoming events list and see where you can help out. Tony needs to know everyone's availability for the upcoming Warrnambool and Noorat shows. These are really important events as the money the club gets paid to do them lowers our yearly membership fees. It is also helpful if you have a family member or friend that can help.

The Rotary Club of Cobden is holding a family fun day on Oct 4th. This is to support CFA members and farmers. I've posted the flyer lower in this bulletin. Please pass on the details to all people you know within those communities. Brooke is also calling on any volunteers that can help out on the day. Rotary Cobden has helped us financially this year with 3 major projects and more than $3000. It's time to help in return. Brooke will be setting up the face paint activity for kids, but if anyone can help on a BBQ, taking tickets, logistics on the day and more, we would love your help. Please message Brooke if you can help.

Have a great week. Next week the Acting President is Anne Adams.

WISE CRAKES FROM JOHN BEKS

I'VE LEARNED .......(PART 1)

I've learned .....
that the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.
that when you're in love, it shows.
that just one person saying to me: "You've made my day!" makes my day.
that having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

I've learned .....
that being kind is more important than being right.
that you should never say "no" to a gift from a child.
that I can always pray for someone, when I don't have the strength to help that person in some other way.
that no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to be goofy with.

I've learned.....
that sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold,
and a heart to understand.
that simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights, when I was a child, did wonders for me as an adult.
that life is like a roll of toilet paper: the closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
that we should be glad that God does not give us everything we ask for.

I've learned ....
that money does not buy class.
that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
that under everyone's hard shell, there is someone to be appreciated and loved.
that the Lord didn't do it all in one day.  What makes me think I can?

Reminder! Bring in donations to 'The Farmer's Pantry'!
a huge thank you to those people who have donated to this worthy cause thus far.  We will be collecting breakfast spreads and toiletries throughout July and August.
Donated items can be brought along to on Tuesday nights.
Thanks Svet.
Maria in the Snow!
Maria recently visited Mt Hotham with George and some of the McLeods. She certainly understands why it is a 'sport' now. Maria absolutely loved it and enjoyed making her first snowman. There is no snow in Brazil, so this was a great opportunity for her!

A MASSIVE thank you to those who helped pay for Maria's skiing lessons, we are truly grateful! Maria has been in Australia for long enough that when she met her instructor who is American, she found his Colorado accent very foreign!

Reminder! We are collecting Bottles/Cans!
This is an easy way to collect 100% profits for our Early Loss Memorial project. You can use this barcode to scan at the machine, then simply enter your containers. If this is too hard, Brooke has business card sized physical versions you can use. A third option is that you can bring in your containers each week and George will collect them in the bucket near the badge board. You can also drop containers to The McLeod house on Kelp St.
Current total is $58.90.

Lets support our sister Rotarians by attending this movie night on 2nd October
Another one of our wonderful thank you letters from our visiting families
