One of the things I love about our Club is the fact activities and club business continues often in the background ensuring our projects move along successfully andclub business occurs as needed. If as a member you feel you don’t have anything to do or want to be more involved there is always something available. At times some members will be very involved, and some will be having well-earned Rotary downtime. I also want to reinforce that our older members should never feel they are not less valued because of age and perhaps a decline in physical ability. I am Secretary next year and will be looking for a little help with some records (hint Ian Sharman and others) so I will be approaching a few for a hand.

Announcements from President Janet
Vale Gordon Curran Gordon joined our Club on 12th Dec 1989 and held a range of positions over the years. He undertook many committee membership positions during his membership and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow in 2009-2010. He was an active member until Dec 12th, 2015. He brought a range of diverse opinions to the club and at times challenged other members with vigorous discussion which was a really good way to clarify your thoughts. Private service.

Memorial Tree progress – this is now moving along well, and we have a tree template actual size to look at. It is going to be made in stainless steel 6mm thick, around 2m wide and 1.8 high with butterflies and leaves to memorialize each baby. Several of us are going to Tooram this Friday morning to have a look at the template in situ. The final product will be a little lighter and rest against an upright concrete panel so it’s a standing tree. We are now beginning the advertising plan and drafting a brochure. If anyone knows any advertising people willing to donate a little time or advise to, please contact me as soon as possible.

Kelly Curran – Club Runner has developed a phone app called Club Runner. Kelly will show us how to use this at our next meeting so those of you who are tech savvy please download this ready to go. I’ve been using it – it’s good compared to the desktop version.

Presentation
We were really privileged to have George McLeod give us a presentation all about the future. This raised much food for thought and some consternation about what will happen not only to jobs but cows in the future. I found the presentation fascinating, and it made me think back to the changes I have witnessed including the introduction of computers, mobile phones, iPad (one of my personal favorites). I can remember the horse and cart delivering milk to my house and the ice man coming as well as the dunny man! Given I’m only in my 50s that’s not that long ago (joke). But really if you look at how far we have come in so few years what George is talking about is not too fantastic. I have read that certain key historical events, like the first and second industrial revolutions or mechanization, were shown to have ultimately created more work than they destroyed, and the same could occur with this "fourth" industrial revolution that I think George is talking about. I do not know if the “more work” actually occurred and I think the work created is different to that done in the past and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I do know that Margaret and I will not be here to see the big changes unfortunately.
George had obviously put a lot of thought into his high-quality presentation. I think he should take this around to other clubs as a speaker. This type of talk helps Rotary move forward and engage younger people who are in touch with what is happening. We may be able to get George to be a fundraiser for the club!! Thankyou George for an outstanding talk.

I have been delivering your donations of milk bottle tops to the City Council offices. They are no longer accepting them, as the Lids for Kids project in Warrnambool is not operating at present. Instead, Wil, our guest speaker from the WCC, suggested you put the washed tops back on the washed milk bottles and place them in your yellow recycling bin. We will update you if the Lids for Kids project is restarted.
The bread tags have been going to Bakers Delight in the Coles carpark at the rear of Target. Feel free to drop them in if you are in the area, however if you still want to bring them to Rotary, I'm happy to deliver them on your behalf. Judy.

ROMAC - Rotary Oceanina Medical Aid for Children
ROMAC is a Multi-District Organisation within Rotary. ROMAC exists to facilitate the provision of life-saving and dignity restoring surgery for children in the Oceania region. ROMAC is looking to fill two significant vacancies:-
Operations Director, and
HR, Training and Recruitment Chair.

Look down on your humbled tourists, doomed to travel this earth, mailing postcards or sending emails, and walking around in drip-dry underwear.
We pray that our mobile phones work, and that there are no messages from our children, causing us to cancel the rest of our trip.
Lead us to good, inexpensive restaurants, where wine is included in the price of the meal, and “pokies” where everyone is a winner.
Give us the strength to visit all the planned and recommended sites, but if we skip historic monuments to take a nap after lunch, have mercy on us, for our flesh is weak.
Protect my wife from “specials” we cannot afford. Lead her not into temptation, for she knows not what she’s doing.
Keep her from checking out all the good-looking blokes and comparing them with me: save her from making a fool of herself in nightclubs, and please, do NOT forgive her, for she knows EXACTLY what she is doing.
And when our tour is over, grant us the favour of finding someone- anyone, please!! – who will look at our home movies and photos, and listen to our stories.
