Beware of new email scam claiming to be from Foundation Chair Klinginsmith
A new email purporting to be from Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Ray Klinginsmith is targeting Rotary members. The email falsely claims that members can become End Polio Now ambassadors if they email club information to a Gmail address within 48 hours. The fraudulent email has the subject line “BECOME AN END POLIO AMBASSADOR” and is sent from a fake email address. This is a scam. Rotary staff is working to resolve the issue. Avoid being the victim of scams by deleting any email that appears suspicious.

Michele Berg named deputy general secretary
Michele Berg has been selected to help lead Rotary’s operations as deputy general secretary. In this role, she will work alongside General Secretary John Hewko to ensure effective internal operating policies and implement strategies and programs. FEBRUARY IS PEACE AND CONFLICT PREVENTION/RESOLUTION MONTH

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

President Steve Giddens welcomed Rotarians, partners and guests and thanked Graeme and Margaret Ross for hosting the event at their lovely home. Steve also mentioned that Rotary Central is co-sponsoring a Men's Health night on 2 March (see flyer below) and encouraged people to attend. Bookings are essential. Steve will also be attending the Youth Achiever Awards on Wednesday night and presenting 4 x $200 cheques to the winners. All were welcome to come along and represent the club.

Relay for Life - Friday and Saturday this week

Arrangements have been made for the Relay for Life BBQ on Friday night and Saturday morning. If anyone else is able to help, please let Terry O'Neill know. All are welcome to come along on the Friday night to spend some social time with other Club members.

Camp Quality Helper Needed

A big thank you to Trevor Williams for volunteering to undertake some repairs to furniture in the Camp Quality Cabin. (And thanks for the glass of wine too Trevor!)

Voices for Peace Concert - Thursday 10 March 2016

Discounted tickets can be obtained from Karina at a cost of $30 (if we can get a group of 50 together). Some renowned Port Fairy Folk Festival artists will be performing.

Youth Exchange Fundraiser

The Youth Exchange Students are fundraising to provide horse riding for people with disabilities. Karla will be selling tickets for $5.00 which will entitle you to a German treat, a ticket into a draw for some German wine and another chance in the District Raffle for a weekend's accommodation in Melbourne. So save up your $5 for the next couple of weeks.

Rotary Lights Project - Monday 7 March at the Sherwood Park Campus at TAFE

THE SARIRI PROJECT AND PHOTOS OF THE NIGHT

A big thank you to Graeme and Margaret Ross for hosting the Sariri fundraiser dinner at their lovely home. Although the tally hasn't been worked out as yet, we made $200 from the raffle alone. Thanks for everyone for bringing along something for the raffle and produce table. This year $3,700 has been raised for the Sariri project through various donations and fund raisers.

Tony Austin provided an overview of the Sariri project to date as well as some photos and videos he took the last time he was at the village. He described the projects planned for 2016 which included the provision of a tractor which was supplied by Graeme Ross, installation of a solar powered pump (valued at $15,000) which was donated by Wannon Water, and the installation of an array of solar powered batteries the cost of which was reduced from $8,000 to $3,842 by Battery World. It is hoped that the village will become self-sufficient in growing their own produce and eventually start selling to other villages. All the equipment and goods will be shipped off to PNG within the next few days and will (hopefully) be waiting for collection by Tony and others when they arrive. Then starts the long treck to the village across tarmac roads, gravel tracks, grass and through rivers, one of which is now missing a bridge which was destroyed in a more recent flood.

ANONYMOUS DONOR

A huge thank you to the anonymous man who dropped off a large number of gift vouchers for the families who use the Camp Quality cabin. He was not staying in the cabin and nobody knows who he is, only that his generosity and compassion is truly appreciated.
