President's Message

Last week was my final meeting as President before the Change Over next week. I have enjoyed the year as President, and I will formally thank everyone at the Change Over. At late notice this week we decided to hold a trivia night on the topic of Rotary History and things knowledge of Warrnambool.

We welcomed Dapinder Singh to our meeting and will induct Dapinder into the club the week after Change Over.

Apologies this week include John Hunt, Sharon Kenny, Andrew Body, Judy Ross, Cathy Bligh, Trevor Williams, Glen Brotchie, Svet Lineham, Lola Lee, Greg Lee.

During this week, several members have been participating in the RYDER program at Deakin University organised by Chris Stebbing. This program is “RYDA is more than a program, it’s partnership which supports teachers on the journey as they provide their students with the tools and understanding they need to see themselves as active, responsible road citizens” from https://rse.org.au/about-ryda/. Rotary is one of RYDAs key corporate partners. Our members participated by being student support people taking the students around the campus to each training location (I got lost several times) and just trying to ensure they enjoyed and benefited from the experience. I worked on Wednesday and found the program remarkably interesting, and I learned some interesting information that I did not know before. The program had a presenter Glen “Gator” who spoke of his own experience because of a car accident and his acquired brain injury.

Our Club's Change Over is on the 2nd of July 2024 where Kelly will become the President for the year 24-25 Rotary year. Please all remember to book online, bring friends and if you are unsure about booking online ring Chris and he will book for you. We look forward to a good night at the Lady Bay and thankyou to Anne Adams and Robbie Blackmore for organising this. With the transition to a new President, I am sure Kelly will get everyone’s support and encouragement.

Cobden Change over occurred last week, and Tony, Joan and Anne Adams attended. Tony also attended Day Break Change over. Both Change Overs had large numbers of members and guests.

Tony and I attended a Rotary House meeting two weeks ago. With the unfortunate passing of Andrew Suggett the Rotary House Committee will need to be revamped so at the next meeting this will occur. Our Club has Jody Ross and Tony Austin on the Committee currently.

At our meeting Tony Austin spoke about the show gates proposal and advised members he is placing everyone on the roster! He also asked if members would use their own phones for scanning. More on this to follow.

The Trivia evening commenced with breaking into four teams, and after approximately forty questions we had a draw necessitating a tie breaker. The winners received a box of chocolates. It was so exciting I cannot remember who won!
(it was Tony, Chris, Brooke and George)

That is all from me. I hope everyone has a great night at the Change Over.

Believe in Yourself
A Woman's Journey (by Beth Mende Conny) Part 12
26. When the going gets tough, soften it with a heartfelt talk with a friend.
27. Let the judge in your heart determine what is right or wrong.
28. Don’t regret what might have been. Accept what is and rejoice in what is yet to be.
29. Life is a book, and you are it’s author. You determine its plot and pace, and you – only you – turn its pages.
30. Let old dreams fade into the night, so new ones can rise with the dawn.
31. Success comes only with a long track record.
32. In life, as in baseball, getting on base can be just as important as hitting a home run.
33. To accept your fears and to move in spite of them – shaky knees and all – that’s true courage.
34. We have 2 birthdays: one marks our entry into the world, the other our re-entry into a world of your own making.
35. If you can’t be yourself, who do you think you can be?
36. Don’t forget the 3 Rs: rest, replenishment, and reflection.
37. Don’t wait for the world to change. Change it yourself.
38. Confidence is not a gift, but a right that must be earned.
39. Fear: another 4-letter word that should be stricken from our vocabularies.
40. Follow your heart the way sailors follow the stars.
41. Knowledge is a salve that soothes many a fear.
42. If you want to embrace all that is good in the world, hug your child.
43. Yesterday does not have a lock on today. What you do today is the key.
44. In a world of over-achievers, remember that it’s OK to be just average.
45. If at first you don’t succeed – try setting more realistic goals.
46. Do great things in your life, but do small things as well.
47. Time is not a competitor to race against, but a friend with whom you can take a leisurely walk.
48. Live today fully and you create a lifetime of meaningful memories.
49. To begin anew, we must say goodbye to who we once were.
50. Love demands that we become courageous explorers. How else could we cope with so much unchartered territory?

This is number 26-50, to be followed by nos. 51-75 and 76-99 in subsequent weeks.
Reminder about the Container Deposit Scheme raising money towards our Early loss memorial project.

If you are able to use the app, you will be able to find our cause under charities. If the app is being too difficult, you can use the barcode below. Simply scan the barcode at any of the return depots, then start inserting your bottles.

If technology is not your friend, feel free to drop bottles at Brooke and George's place which can be taken out to the depots (Kelp street).
