Keith McLeod 90th Birthday congratulation
Alan Bowes addressed the members tonight with an overview of the wonderful service Rotarian Keith McLeod has given to the Rotary Club of Warrnambool over a 53 year service.
Keith joined Rotary on June 14, 1966;
  • During his long association he was President in 1993 – 1994
  • A Director in no less than 9 years
  • Sergeant at Arms for 4 years
  • Involved in inter-club visits, international contacts, Asian students, Counsellor with student exchange programme and has acted as host to incoming students.
  • Keith was also active in Group Study Exchange, R.Y.L.A. finance and fundraising.
  • Fines Master for several Rotary years.
  • Involved with the ‘Senior Citizens Treat’ for many years and for several District Conferences Keith was Chairman of Catering.
  • Keith participated in auctions, the Garden & Craft Exhibition for several years and also the wastepaper collection undertaken by the Club over many years.
  • Prominent in organising and participating in the District Governor’s Golf Day.
  • Received a Paul Harris Fellowship in 1990-1991
  • In 2007 Keith received a Sapphire Pin to his Paul Harris Fellowship.
  • Keith’s outstanding contribution was recognised by the highest award Rotary can bestow in the Four Avenues of Service Award and citation in 2002-2003.
  • Keith attended three World Conferences.
  • For many years Keith was responsible / or the organising of countless barbecues, and with his characteristic red ute, he would order untold quantities of food and load and unload heavy tables and cookers & gas bottles.  It was noted that whenever Keith needed helper’s hands went up spontaneously.
  • Keith McLeod represents the ideal of community service envisaged by Rotary Founder; Paul Harris more than a century ago.  Many years ago, Paul Harris said, and I quote:
 “Men from all businesses and professions coming together in a spirit of friendship and cooperation.  Human ingenuity could hardly devise a better system for service to the community …  If you have the love of your fellow man in your hearts my friends, you can be a Rotarian.”
How enthusiastically and efficiently has our friend and colleague Keith McLeod fulfilled these aspirations of Paul Harris.  You have and continue to be an inspiration to us all.  We wish you a happy 90th birthday with family and friends and may we continue to see your handsome smiling face in our midst for years to come.

Club Assembly – Service Committees
President David gave members a handout detailing the 2019-2020 Service Committees, members assembled into respective committees.
The purpose of tonight’s Club Assembly was to review what programs/projects we undertook last year and decide what we carry forward and what we add.  This will enable planning and budgets to be completed.

President David concluded the evening;
Keith enjoy your Birthday
We also mark Sr. Rose Glennan’s 80th Birthday today, recalled by Rotarian John Becks.

Next Week – Assoc. Professor John Sherwood “Warrnambool’s Moyjill Site – evidence of early Australians?”

Thought for the week may evoke memories of where you were when Neil Armstrong on 20 July 1969 said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”  I know Keith McLeod was preparing for his 40th Birthday!
