President Peter's Message
At our meeting on the 20th July we welcomed Jillian Oliver who is the president of the Alfredton Rotary Club along with Friends of Rotary, Phillip Ross, Andrew Ferguson and Maree McCosh, exchange students Rex and Maria and Rex's parents Pat and Sally Harris and Mary Bowman.
Brian Trenery introduced Jillian Oliver, the District Ambassador for Rotary Oceana Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC).  Jillian has a background in nursing, teaching and hospitality.
ROMAC provides life changing surgical intervention for children under the age of 15 year with severe physical abnormalities, burns victims and as in the case of the Boson girls, conjoined twins.  Around 25 children a year are treated. Referrals come from Interplast and other organisations.  Surgeons offer their services for free but there are other expenses thatROMAC have to cover.  The organisation relies on donations to carry outfits work and also limits the number of childrenn that can be treated.  One hundred percent of donations goes to the treatment of the children.  Jillian showed us before and after photos of children with severe physical abnormalities.  Their surgery has been truly life changing.  Thank you Jillian and Brian for inviting her to our meeting.
Jillian's other charitable interest is in supplying medical and educational equipment to Vanuatu.  Three containers have been organised so far.
Thanks to those who are contributing to the Community Cupboards.
Next week we hear from Glenn and Andy Finlay who both completed, with their wives the Coast to Coast Walk in England.  Expect to hear stories of extreme fatigue, wild weather, attacks by feral sheep, blisters on knees and hands and being haunted be ghosts on the North York Moors.
And we will welcome Mary Bowman to membership of our Club.

THE CENTURIAN CLUB
Rotarians; since I joined Rotary and 8 years ago, I have some to recognize the importance our Centurian Club in assisting in the most worthwhile projects funded by Rotary International.
This means giving at least $100 each year to the Rotary Foundation will ensure that 100% of the money is passed onto the many Rotary Foundation projects around our world.
Over the coming year I will endeavor to provide reliable information from the RI Foundation Web page with a view to encourage our club and club members to look at maintaining and/or improving our yearly contributions to the Foundation.

I have included the link to the web address should anyone wish to do their own research

Volunteers needed for the Science and Engineering Challenge!

Registration to volunteer for the Science and Engineering Challenge is now open, and we need as many volunteers as we can get! This year we have expanded the program to try out a primary day. Currently we have a full program on the Monday 11th Aug and a 90% full program on the Tuesday 12th Aug (this means up to 250 students per day!). Anyone can be a volunteer as long as they have a working with children check.

Being a volunteer for this program is much easier than it sounds. You will be in a team of 2-4 people and run 1 activity. All information and training about that 1 activity will be provided before the date, and there is even a training day. It's really not too hard, I promise! Plus, you get free lunch, tea and coffee. It's lots of fun! Over 130 Rotary groups from across the country participate.

All information about the days AND registration to volunteer can be found in the same link here:

Please contact Brooke if you have questions
Walking Group on again!
9am meeting at the Pavilion. Social coffee at the cafe post walk.
You can always post in the whatsapp chat to see if anyone is going that morning, or to get a lift!
