Kelly Curran and I attended PETS 1 training in Mount Gambier on Saturday. I would recommend this to any member as we learned a lot about Rotary and some things about ourselves. At our meeting on the 28th we had some visiting Rotarians: PDG Bruce Buxton with his wife Gillian and friend Cini from the Rotary Club of Devonport North. It’s a small world as our Greg Lee who recently lived in Devonport played golf with another Rotarian from that Club.
We also had Rotarian Ro Linton from Queensland and her husband Dennis. We also had Joan Austin visit. Also, a warm welcome back to our members Svet, George and Brooke, and Glen Brotchie from their overseas travels – it’s good to have you all back.
Apologies from Leon de Villiers, Graeme Ward, Chris Stebbing, Keith McLeod, Kelly Curran and Rachell Furnell. I rang Keith after the meeting as it was unlike him not to come to Rotary and found he was in hospital. Today (Wednesday) he is hoping for release – he is dressed and ready to go so that’s good to hear.
Reminders include:
- The Rodeo is on this weekend – we are still short on the roster so if you can come and help let Tony know asap.
- The Christmas party is on the 19th of Dec, and we will have a Kris Kringle (is that how you spell it?)
- This Friday evening 1st Dec there is a get together at the Warrnambool Club – bring a plate and yourself and partner. I’m bringing Trevor and Greg as apparently, I’m the driver.
- The District Conference is on March 15, 16 and 17 – Rachel is our On to Conference organiser = please come the more the merrier.
Anne Adams spoke to members about a book sale in January long weekend starting on Australia Day Friday 26thJanuary the preparation will be prior to this date so helpers will be needed for both the preparation and sale – more information to come.
Glen Brotchie spoke to members advising that we are running golf and bowls day for another Districts Conference in Warrnambool in late March 2024 and stated that there was not a lot for us to do other than helping with the organisation of the walk.
A change of plans for the evening meeting this week occurred when our planned speaker could not attend. Svet kindly agreed to show us some slides and speak about her and Russell’s holiday. It sounds like they had an amazing and at times sobering experience visiting countries including Poland, German and France. Ro then addressed the club with three funny stories and Gill spoke to us about her and Cini’s 8-year experience with the Days for Girls project. She organised three teams of people to make the items and took them over to Nepal to present then to women who needed them. She said this project had been a life changing experience for her and all those involved and congratulated our club on our involvement with this project in Papua New Guinea. Thankyou to all who filled in the speaker spot this was much appreciated at short notice and thankyou to Greg for stepping in as Sargent.
At next week’s meeting Nick Yandel is speaking about Timor-Leste. Cathy and George are on fellowship and Sharon is doing the invocation.
