The year is flying by isn’t it?   Another busy week ended with Tony, Judy Alan Bowes and Anne Adams moving the club property from the Warrnambool Football netball club to the Warrnambool Bowls Club.

 

Thank you all for a job well done.  Phillip Ross has kindly taken the lectern to make some changes to it.  Several of us also went through some basic training for the show gates.   Possibly contrary to Tonys opinion the training was useful, and they had obviously listened to our comments from last years gate manning experience and made some changes.  We will see how that goes.  We have quite a number of members manning the gates so thank you in advance for your time and commitment.

 

There were a lot of apologies this week, lots on holiday including David Brown, Margaret Ross, Graeme Ward, Anne Adams, Ann Donaldson, Rachel Furnell, Chris Stebbing, Brooke and George McLeod. 

 

Welcome to Friend of Rotary (and Judys husband) Phillip Ross and a belated welcome to Ave, apologies for not introducing you on the night.  I hope you enjoyed your evening and we hope to see you again.  We were pleased to see Lola Lee and daughter Donna again.   

 

Show Gates are on this weekend and Tony, Phillip Ross, Rahni Cooper and I did our first shift tonight and the technology for the tickets purchase, printing and scanning was really easy to use thank goodness.  All went well.  Judy had to withdraw and we hope she is feeling better soon and is lying on the couch being pampered by Phillip who I hear is a wonderful cook…..

 

The bowling night was held tonight, and Terry represented our club.  The Board decided to donate $500 to their night and cause, that being Say No to Domestic Violence.  It would have been good to have other members there but please remind anyone who enquires about why we weren’t there: that we have quite a few away overseas, several working on the Show Gates which was set a far while ago and several for whom bowling would not be a great idea (like me).   I think the donation was a great gesture from our club.    

 

Rotary Regionalization is still on the radar and we have only had 9 responses for the club.  I have re-sent the form in an email so if you would like to please have a look and try and fill in the form.  If you cannot progress on it, it usually means you need to enter a word response so I is something you cannot answer put “I don’t know” or “not applicable” or check there is not a pop up that needs to be closed.  

 

Thank you to Robbie for continuing to do the Swindle. John Hunt interviewed Peter Smid at the meeting.  Peter was very polite after being given short notice about the interview.   We were interested to hear of Peters past and the breadth of his work and the different places he has lived.  I lived in Mitcham too for many years and he reminded me of Ringwood Lake where he used to visit, and I used to go there too after going to Ringwood to have my vaccinations as a child from my then home in Blackburn.  Thank-you Peter for stepping in with such good grace and to John for undertaking the interview.

 

Next week we have representatives from New Guinea and other Pacific countries who are attending a Conference at Deakin University commencing on Wednesday next week coming to our meeting at Warrnambool Bowls Club usual time.  I believe we have funded 2 of these representatives to attend the conference.  They will come to our meeting and tell us something of themselves and the situations in their countries.
