The meeting commenced with a call to order from PP Keith McLeod who has accepted the job of being the Sergeant at Arms for one week in every four this year. Its wonderful to have his wit and wealth of experience leading our meeting.
A thankyou to Tony Austin for stepping in for me last week as I was unwell after driving from Melbourne to come to the meeting – I’m sure it couldn’t have been the quantity of food I consumed on the journey. To add insult to injury I am effectively wearing a big black sock having fallen through the floor of my Brunswick house. Thankyou also to Graeme Ward for doing the invocation.
It was good to have a change of venue for the evening and to try out a possible location for future weekly meetings. Members are asked to please comment on whether you think the venue is suitable for weekly meetings or if it may be with some changes. Please send your comments to Chris Stebbing with a cc to myself and Kelly Curran. We will collect comments and present them to the Board. Also a side note to Andrew B please be assured that even though I might not have looked like I was listening to your comments I did hear them and will include these to the Board. My head was trying to do too many things – i.e.. more than 1 thing is too much for me.
We welcomed Barbara Johnston, Glenda and Alec Witham to the meeting and had apologies from Robbie Blackmore, Brian Trenery (who has a leave of absence) Rachel Furnell and Chris Stebbing. Just a reminder when parking at the RSL we are able to use the vacant block of land opposite.
Our meeting was entitled “Who looks after the Carer” by Robyn Hose from Barwon Health was very interesting with a good reminder to have supports in place before they are really urgently needed. A message to us all I think. Contacting and doing an assessment with My Aged Care www.myagedcare.gov.au is a good place to start as well as the www.ndis.gov.au. My son has just commencement on the NDIS and there are so many helpful support services in the NDIS and My Aged Care to make your life easier if needed. My Aged Care is not just for people transferring into Nursing Home care but there are outreach services under both programs to assist people to remain in their home.
A very happy birthday to two people with week, Ann Body and Keith McLeod. We celebrated with a cake for Keith and the RSL staff member did an amazing job cutting it up to distribute to so many and Keith even had some to take home.
Not too many nights left for Tony to prepare for his PNG trip and Richard Wilton. Leon is off on a driving holiday, Trevor and I are off to Queensland next Wednesday to see our granddaughters who we miss so much, Greg is off on a family holiday to Ireland, John Hunt is going to Europe, Svets in Paris.
Kelly has booked to do the RSL again next week and we will have a look at the upstairs at the Whalers as a comparison. A sincerely apology to new member Peter Smid for the mix up last week in venue notification.
