Tuesday night we had the pleasure of Maria our exchange student attend our meeting. It was great to see Maira and hope she has a wonderful time here in Warrnambool. Thank you to Greg from Warrnambool Central for coming along for the night.
Brian Trenery was our speaker for the night and Brian gave us un update on RI Constitution and Brian gave us an insight to how things are changed in Rotary. Brian said when he joined Rotary everyone wore formal wear and other changes that have occurred in Rotary. It was very interesting to hear and thank you Brian for a great night.
The second handbook sale is fast approaching which is the long weekend and if you are available to help, please see Anne Adams.

RYLA 2025
will take place in the April 2025 school holidays. We are seeking participants to attend aged between 18-25 at the time of the camp. Applications will open around October. If you have anyone in mind, please contact Rachel.

Youth Exchange
Rotary internationally promotes youth exchange across the globe. Our district has 3 incoming 16 year old students for the 2025 year. Maria from Brazil will be living here in Warrnambool, and as such we are looking for homestays for Maria. This basically means taking on board Maria in your house for a minimum of 6 weeks. She will be attending school and volunteering at Rotary events while here in Warrnambool. If you are not able to take her on board, there are options that if you are doing something fun or 'cool', you are welcome to take Maria along as she is here is experience everything Australian culture. Peter has offered to bring her to the Australian Open for example.
Please get in contact with me about what is means to be a homestay parent.

Maria will be our guest speaker in May to tell us all the details about her, but to get started, here are some quick facts about Maria.

Father Breno is a Doctor and Mother Alexsanrina 'Doca'
is a stay at home mum.
Maria has a younger sister named Ana-Alice who is aged 9.
Her Grandparents live close by which Maria loves. She has mentioned that her Grandfather has an extreme passion for football (soccer) and will sacrifice family events to watch a game. (almost sounds like how aussies are for watching grand finals).
Maria is very excited to learn about our culture and ways of life. Maria is also very interesting in learning our sports. Back home she loves to play volleyball, beach tennis and badminton.
Maria is a thrill seeker and recently went sky diving in Brazil. We will have to up our game to meet this level of thrill seeking! Maria lives on property and loves riding her mare horse.

The Folkie is just around the corner!
Each year we provide volunteer support to the folkie. The requirement is for each volunteer to work two shifts of 6 hours a shift over the course of the long weekend in Tent 5 as ushers providing guidance/directions to festival patrons. In return for this work volunteers receive a weekend pass to the Folkie.

The Obedient Husband
I had eighteen bottles of whisky in my cellar, and I was told by my wife to empty the contents of each and every bottle down the sink - OR ELSE -
So, I said I would, and proceeded with the unpleasant task. I withdrew the cork from the first bottle, and poured the contents down the sink, with the exception of one glass which I drank. I extracted the cork from the second bottle and did likewise with it, with the exception of one glass which I drank. I then withdrew the cork from the third and poured the contents down the sink, which I drank.
I pulled the cork from the fourth bottle down the sink, and poured the bottle down the glass, which I drank. I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next and drank one sink out of it, and threw the rest down the glass and poured the cork down the bottle.
Then I corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink and drank the pour. When I had everything emptied, I steadied the house with one hand, counted the glasses, corks, bottles and sink with the other, which were seventy-nine, and the house came by I counted them again and finally had all the houses in one bottle which I drank.
I am not under the affluence of incohol, way the by, though some thinkle peep I am. I am not not half as thunk as you might drink. I feel so feelish, I don't know which is me, and the drunker I stand here the longer I get.

A reminder that we are collecting our containers towards our early loss memorial tree at Tooram Memorial Park. The tub will be placed at the back of the room each week next to the badge board for collection. You can put containers you have drunk from the meeting, or bring some from home.
