Barbecue for Veteran Motorcycle Display
Community Service Director Rotarian John Harris thanked all who assisted with the barbecue for the Veteran Motorcycle Club on Saturday last. Some $500 was raised through the efforts of Tony Austin, Michael Boyd, Keith McLeod, Judy Ross, Rachel Furnell, Lois O'Meara, Gordon Curran, Anne Adams, Duncan Stalker, John Harris, Alan Bowes, John Nisbet and Roy Slater. A great result from a great team.
Highlands Foundation Mother and Baby Packs
Rotarian Svet Lineham reported that more than 130 packs with everyday necessities for mothers and newborns in Papua New Guinea were assembled on Saturday morning. The packs consist of a homemade bag made out of a pillowcase, filled with jump suits, cloth nappies, singlets, beanies, booties, cardigans and a piece of clothing for when the baby is older. For the mother the pack included sanitary pads, a nightie, a maternity bra, underwear and soap, along with a small present for mother and baby.
The foundation was set up by two midwives from Melbourne to address the high infant and maternal mortality rate in Papua New Guinea, often due to maternal infection post-delivery and infant pneumonia.
It’s expected the packs will be sent to Papua New Guinea by the end of the year.

Rotarian Terry O’Neill prepared and conducted the annual Melbourne Cup sweep.

Thanks to Terry and all who participated in a week when it has been confirmed by World Health that a new and dangerous outbreak of polio has occurred amongst Syrian refugee children. Every contribution towards vaccination helps eradicate this scourge.
Gardeners Needed - Thursday November 14
Time for the Club to honour its selling of 20 hours of work to Past President Anne Adams at the dinner auction. Thursday November 14 is the date. Bring whipper snippers, rakes, hoes, etc and let Rotarians John Harris or Tony Austin know that you are coming. Anne will be providing lunch so come along for a fun day. Final details next week.
Vale Noel Green
The Warrnambool Standard this week wrote of the wonderful community work fostered by former Rotarian Noel Greene. Noel was a building contractor and Warrnambool City Councillor who packed a host of achievements into his 74 years. He supervised the multi-million-dollar performing arts and sports centre at Brauer College and its sports complex, and was a great resource for Rotarian Duncan Stalker when principal at Brauer.
A tree-lined road to the college arts centre bears the name Noel Greene Drive.
He also left his mark on the city council as an enthusiastic supporter for construction of the water treatment plant and sewage treatment works.
During his five years on the Lyndoch Board he oversaw an expansion of residential facilities. His building advice was sought for projects at St John of God Hospital, Lifeline and CBC school complex. His spare time and retirement years were spent on Rotary projects, including Rotary House, visiting, caring and doing handyman jobs for senior citizens and others with needs.
The club extends its deepest sympathy to his much loved wife Gwenie and their six children.
