There were no chickens in the meeting tonight and my week has been thankfully quiet.
Welcome to visiting Rotarians from Langwarrin Mardi and John Sheppard who will be here again in March for their District Conference where we will be providing some support to help with the running of the conference, Richard Wilton and Stephen Adams representing the New Guinea Project and Barbara Williams. Below is the proposed structure globally and locally.
We as a Club are supposed to put in our preference for a grouping called a Community Group within a Section to better support Clubs to provide relevant and engaging experiences, that serve our communities and enable us to grow. A Rotary Community Group is a new way of grouping clubs to facilitate greater collaboration and deliver more specialised support to clubs. The aim is to have groups of 12 – 25 clubs. All clubs will be allocated to a Rotary Community Group and have a Rotary Community Leader who will support them if and as needed.
It is intended that the clubs within each Community Group will work closely together to increase
their impact, retain and grow their membership, and build their public profile and brand. We must nominate our preference by Sunday October 29 th . Our local clubs will be meeting together to discuss this, and everyone’s opinion is welcome, so let me know your preference for a grouping. (The existing District 9780 Clubs and Group C are listed below).
Anne Adams updated us on progress for the Garden Show where she now has 4 gardens. There will also be stalls at some gardens and Anne also talked about the provision of scones and plants for sale. I will not be making scones as I don’t want our club to get a bad name.
The Folk Festival is on again this year 8 th to 11 th March 2024, and we have committed to supporting this with David Brown our Champion.
There is a local Rotary club meeting for Say No to Domestic Violence on this week Oct 4 th 5.30pm at the RSL. Sharon Kenny and I will be attending.
Our speaker for the night was our own Tony Austin speaking about the New Guinea Project that he has been involved in now for many years. This is an amazing project with involvement from other Rotarians including long term involvement with Richard Wilton who was here for the meeting and Stephen Adams who happens to be PP Anne Adam’s grandson and hopefully will continue to be involved with this project. This project has changed the lives of many Papua New Guineans. Our Club is immensely proud of the work Tony and teammates have done and the impact that it has had. We look forward to the next instalment.
