At the meeting on the 5/9 we welcomed back Lean de Villiers looking relaxed after many rounds of golf and Trevor Williams presenting with a really good tan after their travels. Is good to have them back. Apologies from Brian Trenery and Rachell Furnell as well as Peter Smid and Greg Lee who was traveling around the Scottish Highlands.
We also had lots of very welcome visitors including the 4 NYSF students Rahni, Lexie, Brigitte and Nyasha. The students families were a wonderful edition to the night. Thankyou to Lean for returning as Sargent for the evening.
We commenced the night with acknowledgement and congratulations to Alan Bowes. What an example he is to us all. He has been recognised as the longest serving JP in Victoria with 62 years of service to the community. Congratulations for a wonderful achievement.
Anne Adams announced a membership workshop that is occurring on Sunday at the RSL and encouraged members to attend. Sharon, Kelly, Anne and I are attending but all others are very welcome, bookings can be made through me at this stage.
Brooke introduced the NYSF students and outlined to members an guests information on the NYSF program. We have 4 students who we are “sharing” with other local Rotary Clubs. All the students did an admirable job of introducing themselves and enlightened us what subjects they really liked, where they might be heading career wise and what they enjoyed doing. It will be interesting to see how they go and we wish them all the best in their endeavours.
We were privileged to have John Beks present on Fatherhood. Some members had heard this talk before but it was new to many and even to those who had heard it before thoughts of childhood experiences and interactions with fathers were elicited. It was clear John had put a lot of thought into the presentation and his talk certainly bought back some found memories for me. Thank you to John for a slight change to the meeting agenda and apologies if he felt rushed as we had the NYSF
student’s introduction prior to his talk.
Given that I am writing this report at somewhat of a late stage I can report that several of us got together for some dinner at the Warrnambool Hotel before the Warrnambool Daybreak fund raiser for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3. I was pleased to sit next to Keith who clearly loved the show, as did Tony (not). They cant wait for MBFW4. It was a fun night with great company. Congratulatons to Daybreak for a great event.
A reminder, meetings will now continue at the Bowls club in Timor Street. Our Club belongings will be moved to the storage at the new venue.
