President's Welcome

Tuesday night we had the pleasure of the District Governor Lesley Shedden come and visit our club. It was great to hear from Lesley and what’s happening in Rotary. We thank Lesley for making the effort to come and visit us. Lesley is also coming to our book sale on Australia day weekend and helping out for the day and we are
looking forward to it.

On the 15th of December we are having a Bunnings barbecue, thank you to all for putting your hand up. Janet has sent around the roster and if anyone has any concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Rachel has sent out correspondence for our Christmas breakup; we are having a 2-course meal – Christmas Roast and Dessert and the cost is $25.00. There will be a Christmas raffle $1.00 a ticket and all proceeds going towards the Camp Quality Cabin. There will be a Kris Kringle exchange and if you would like to participate,
please bring along a gift to the value of $20.00.

Youth Exchange
Rotary internationally promotes youth exchange across the globe. Our district has 3 incoming 16 year old students for the 2025 year. Maria from Brazil will be living here in Warrnambool, and as such we are looking for homestays for Maria. This basically means taking on board Maria in your house for a minimum of 6 weeks. She will be attending school and volunteering at Rotary events while here in Warrnambool. If you are not able to take her on board, there are options that if you are doing something fun or 'cool', you are welcome to take Maria along as she is here is experience everything Australian culture. Peter has offered to bring her to the Australian Open for example.

Please get in contact with me about what is means to be a homestay parent.

We are in need of some fantastic volunteers to help us move the vast amount of books we have in storage for our famous book sale to their new location.
We simply need some 'younger' people who are able to lift small boxes of books. We are aiming to form a working factory line from shed to pallet. The forklift will then do the heavy lifting to the new location.
Saturday 14th December
Meet in the carpark of the old Warrnambool Club on Kepler Street at 10m.
We should be done within 2hrs.
Please let Tony know if you can help!
RYLA applications are now open!
We are on the hunt for 18-25 year olds.
For further information about the program visit our website: https://ryla9780.org/
Please see Rachel about any information or if you have someone interested. Rachel also has physical copies of the flyer if you would like one.

As we have had such a fluctuation of members over the last year or two, it is a great time to point out some elements of Rotary which some of our older members have a great deal of knowledge about.

One small element of this is the small change jar. This cute bear jar is put with the badge board every week as you walk in. The aim is that if you have any loose annoying silver (or gold) coins taking up valuable real estate in your pocket/wallet, you can throw them into this jar. This jar raises money for Rotary's biggest project; To end Polio globally. This money is also tripled by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, so the $1 you add, will become $3.

Another point which highlighted questions this week was the hierarchy of Rotary. Here is a great article from District 9675 about how we are positioned in the grand scheme of things. Have a read in your own leisure, but make sure to ask questions if you have them :)
