Old Rotary Traditions and Protocols
Mal Price said that some of the older traditions and protocols of Rotary appear to have slipped by the way side during the past few years and said he, and others in the club, would like some of our club’s ‘old ways’ to be reinstated. Mal called newly inducted Rotarian Louise Keogh up to the front and asked all Rotarians present to come forward, shake her hand and make her welcome to our club.
Alternative to Schoolies Fundraiser Movie
Svet spoke on behalf of the International and Youth team and said late last year a group of Warrnambool students had gone to the Philippines on an alternative to schoolies trip. Another group is now getting ready to go again at the end of this year. In order to raise funds for their trip they are holding a film night on Friday September 11 at 7pm. The movie is called Mr Holmes and is a modern day take on Sherlock Holmes and has an excellent well known cast. Svet will have tickets for sale at Rotary next week (18 August)
Joint Community Project
John Stuckey spoke of his involvement with policeman Stuart Green in coming up with a joint community project in the next 12 months - this can be a short or long term project and John would welcome any ideas for the upcoming community project.
Membership
John spoke of the membership drive and said so far 5 new female Rotarians had been recruited and 0 new male Rotarian’s.
Trip to Japan April 2016
Andrea Sampson announced that next year she is hoping to take a group to Japan during the April 2016 school holidays - she stressed this will be a trip for “grown ups”. It will be a two week trip during the cherry blossom time and she hopes to take in at least three cities and many tourist attractions. So far Andrea 6 people have expressed an interest in going – a minimum of 10 people is needed to get the cheaper rate air fares and accommodation. Isobel would like to pass on her thanks to all those in our club who offered her support and expressed their concern when she was recently retrenched from Lyndoch. It seems she is in good company with many other Rotarians having shared a similar unpleasant experience. She would like club members to know that she has been offered a job as Foster Care coordinator with McKillop Family services and expects to start on 25 August and says a thank you for all your positive wishes.
Congratulations John and commiserations members. A $3.00 tab at the bar would only get everyone some ice!
