Wisecrack of the week
From John Beks
Prayer for Octogenarians
Today, Dear Lord, I'm 80, there's much I haven't done.
I hope, Dear Lord, You'll let me live until I'm 81.
By then, if I'm finished with all I want to do.
Would you be kind and let me live until I'm 82.
There are things I want to know about, and oh, so much to see.
Do you think that you could manage, Lord, Until I'm 83.
The world is changing very fast, and there's so much more in store.
So I'd surely like to be on hand until I'm 84.
And if by then my heart is sound and I am still alive
I'd like to live to be around until I'm 85.
There are still so many procedures and so much needs a fix
I'd like to be around when I am 86.
I know, Dear Lord, it's much to ask, and mighty nice in heaven.
But I would like to be around until I'm 87.
Perhaps by then I might be slow and I know it's getting late
But it would be nice to be your guest when I am 88.
I will have seen so much by then, and had so grand a time
That I'd be willing to call it quits and settle for 89!
On second thoughts, I may have lost count by then, Dearest Lord.
Would it spoil some vast eternal plan,
If I lived to 99?
