President Peter's Message

Welcome:
Apologies:Janet, David, Robbie, Svet, Angela, Johne Beks, Brooke.
Congratulations Ann on Sgt of Arms
Congratulations Deb on the very professional Bulletin
Peter asked that people get behind Rotarian Sarah and support the Documentary "Her name is Celeste" showing at the capital cinema on Wednesday evening.
The books have been boxed, thanks to those that have assisted Deb and her team.  Tony has secured a 40 foot container and is working on the logistics of moving the books to the Showgrounds.
I have got into the habit of collecting bottle tops and finally found a place to take them to; the Archie Graham Centre.
I mentioned last week that there had been a meeting of the four Warrnambool Rotary Presidents.  The following discussions took place:
Daybreak Club:
  • suggests the other Clubs provide auction items for their Long Lunch &keep proceeds
  • place "No to Domestic Violence" stickers on public facilities
  • introducing fee-for-service, minimum $500 to reduce Club membership to $100
  • planning to put an electronic billboard in shop front to display Rotary projects
  • keen on promoting 'A Big Life' throughout the District
  • have a combined Polio Plus Movie
Central:
  • getting purpose built trailer for can collections
  • supporting Community Cupboards
  • working with Brighton North Club who have provided pallets of provisions for distribution in our district in the Community Cupboards
East:
  • Hole-in-one difficult to get volunteers
  • BBQ
WRC:
  • Peace Poles
  • Column advert of our activities in Warrnambool Weekly
  • Book Sales
  • recommended the doco "Her name is Celeste"

There is a plan to have a combined meeting of all the Clubs on Wednesday 24th September, probably at the RSL.

Brian Trenery gave a talk on Rotary Fellowships.  He gave a brief history of Rotary and how it was establishsed to provide fellowship and networking opportunities.  There are over 100 active Fellowships and 60,000 members.  Brian is in the Scouting Fellowship.
The Fellowships are affiliated with Rotary but have their own administrative structures and oversee their activities and events.  To set up a Fellowship one needs to attract at least 25 members from 5 countries.  Members are encouraged to join a Fellowship of their specific interest.  Ann Donaldson is considering joining the Quilters Fellowship.

Member Announcements:

Ken once again asked for interest in attending South West Health Care Service facility in the coming weeks.  People who have indicated their interest in attending should meet at Cooper Street at 10am.

THE CENTURIAN CLUB
Rotarians; since I joined Rotary and 8 years ago, I have some to recognize the importance our Centurian Club in assisting in the most worthwhile projects funded by Rotary International.
This means giving at least $100 each year to the Rotary Foundation will ensure that 100% of the money is passed onto the many Rotary Foundation projects around our world.
Over the coming year I will endeavor to provide reliable information from the RI Foundation Web page with a view to encourage our club and club members to look at maintaining and/or improving our yearly contributions to the Foundation.

I have included the link to the web address should anyone wish to do their own research
