Tuesday night we had Meg Deyell who is the new manager for the lighthouse theatre. Meg gave us an insight to her working career and what opportunities she would like to do at the lighthouse theatre. Meg has had a very exciting career, and it was great to hear all the amazing work she has done. Meg is also wanting to bring a lot more to the lighthouse theatre and acknowledge our local talent. We have amazing talent in our community and l look forward to heading along and seeing all the new wonderful things happening at the lighthouse theatre.
Last Saturday Brooke, George, Tony and l went to CPR training, this needs to be done yearly and l have to say every time l go l learn something new. Thank you, Brooke, for organising the day. After CPR training a few of us headed down to the Camp Quality Cabin to see what work needs to be done. Rachel has been doing a
fantastic job organising and there is quiet a bit of work to be done. We are having a working bee on the 24th and 25th August and
would be great to see you all come along and help out.
Project Champion Tony Austin and all the amazing work he does in covering our
international project and helping rural villages in PNG obtaining clean drinking water and having a better quality of life had a fantastic write up in the Warrnambool weekly newsletter last week. Well done, Tony.

Robbie gave us an update on Cathy as said Cathy was out walking and we are all looking forward to seeing Cathy at the club again.

We had some special guests on Tuesday night, Meg Deyell from the lighthouse theatre, from the volunteer expo we had Rob and Val McDonald, Wendy Gosden and Debbie Ferguson. We also had Peter and Philomena Headen who came along and were two weeks early but happy to have them come along for the night.
Next week we are at Warrnambool Bowls Club and Brooke has organised a speaker from Deakin to come along and chat with us. It is also Science and Engineering Challenge week.
For all board members we have a meeting on Tuesday night.

Save the Date - Science and Engineering Challenge
We are now less than 1 month away from the challenge! Please save the date in your calendars. This year we are looking to need 32 volunteers to help run such a full day. Volunteers don't need to be a Rotarian, but need to have a working with childrens check. The Challenge date is set for Tuesday 13th August with setup on Monday 12th from roughly 2pm. RYLA 2025
will take place in the April 2025 school holidays. We are seeking participants to attend aged between 18-25 at the time of the camp. Applications will open around October. If you have anyone in mind, please contact Rachel.
Camp Quality Cabin
There is a lot of maintenance that needs to happen at the cabin in the next 12 months. If you would like to assist on this hands on project and join a small camp quality committee, please contact Rachel.

Tree Planting Working Bee
A reminder of the tree planting working bee to revegetate the site of the old Bromfield Street Weir (Merri river) on Saturday 17th August from 10am til 12 midday. Dress for the weather; bring gloves, sturdy footwear and water. The CMA is providing the necessary tools and materials.
The Warrnambool central is putting on a sausage sizzle, so for catering purposes please RSVP Graeme (graeme.ward57@bigpond.com) by Monday 12th August.

Bromfield Street Weir Tree Planting
Date: Saturday 17th of August. Time: 10 am to 12 midday. Location: the site of the now removed Bromfield Street weir on the Merri River. (northern, or bottom end of Bromfield Street)
To be followed by a BBQ lunch (thank you Tony!)
The CMA will have a volunteer sign in sheet.
The CMA will provide the necessary tools, however some additional digging tools, e.g. shovels and picks might be handy.
Participants to dress for the weather, wear strong footwear, bring gloves and water.

HOW TO BE A GOOD FRIEND…
Prioritise your friendships. Keep in touch, even when you’re busy.
Listen. A good friend is someone who hears and bothers to answer.
Don’t expect too much. Bea realistic about what they can and can’t give.
Be forgiving of their weaknesses and accepting of their shortfalls.
Have fun together. Help them see the funny side of things, when they have lost perspective.
Be there for them, when they really need you and don’t make them ask.
Let them take centre stage too. Don’t hog the attention.
Open up to each other. Intimacy comes from sharing something honest, be it words or experiences.
Give them space. There are ebbs and flows in every relationship.
Let them know they are valued.
