Meeting 2851 was definitely an informative session on the future of planning in Australian cities.
Damian Madigan's UNISA presentation on Bluefield Housing is looking at providing infill housing in Australia's suburbs to assist with population growth.
Bluefields are existing older suburbs, often at the heart of our cities. They are key locations for keeping connected, accessing services, and maintaining independence. Whether it is a young family looking to buy there first home, or a retired individual looking to downsize, the bluefield concept calls for more diversification to cater for changing society needs.
Unfortunately, the pizza van repairs will take longer to repair than originally thought. As such, the board have decided to withdraw from our commitments for the foreseeable future.
We understand we will be missed at our regular events such as the Mount Gambier Show, Hill Climb, and potentially Reidy Park School events. This will also reduce our revenue for distributing to community projects. We can still honour all our regular commitments and work towards making up the shortfall with our Goods and Service Auctions in 2026.

Know Any Inspirational Young People?
Do you know any 18 - 25 year old looking to embark on a life changing experience?
The Rotary Club of Mount Gambier West is looking to provide a scholarship for one local young person. Our own President, Neil Davies, is a RYLA graduate and cannot speak highly enough of the lessons learned and connections made.
Applications close for RYLA in March 2026. We would like any interested students to apply for an interview so we can select a young person to support.
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!
Dr Peter ‘Kevin’ O’Shaughnessy is hosting a public lecture on the ACHIEVE Project — a community initiative dedicated to shaping a more compassionate and emotionally intelligent healthcare workforce.
ACHIEVE Project:
The lecture will introduce the ACHIEVE Project, a community approach focused on creating safe, inclusive spaces for education around deeply human conversations.
These conversations focus on challenging topics including cancer, dementia, fertility, grief, loss, and end-of-life care. By engaging with lived experiences, current student and professional insights, the project aims to better equip future healthcare professionals to navigate these complex topics with empathy, compassion, and holistic, person-centred care.
